Mic, have you ever heard of "diversification"? Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Everything doesn't have to come from Japan now that you have a Japanese car. What are you going to do now, marry a japanese woman? :D Just kidding!

The way I see it, Saki may be a nice Japanese wine but the French are the only ones that have the real deal;Champagne. Thats why when it comes to tires and safety I went straight for the Dom Perignon

Mic, Its good to see you back on this site!

Is your 8 a red one? Cuz I just saw one Red 8 with same kind of rims pass by in Woodbine turing to 16 Ave... I was coming out from the gas bar..

How do you like your Blizzak?
I've got a Titanium GT....drive in to TO from Newmarket every day so decent snow tires were a must! I don't mind the Blizzaks...I ordered the LM-22s (for the higher speed rating) but they didn't have any stock last November when I got my car, so I settled for WS-50s. Lots of wheel spin on damp pavement with the Blizzaks, and you can smell the rubber after a drive from Newmarket to TO on dry pavement!!!

I've got three years left on my lease, I just hope the tires will make it :D

Stevo, after reading your post, I decided to take a wif of my tires after driving 5 miles and I also smelt burning rubber. NOT HAPPY!

I guess when the weather gets colder, they won't melt away as easily.

Lesson Learned: Don't put the winter tires on until the white stuff is actually falling down!

Same here, Shamblerock.. ..the 'aroma' is always noticeable after I garage my 8..the parts man at Whitby says the Hankooks' compound makes them less susceptible to tread wear on dry than my Miata's Blizzaks .. [and they lasted for 5 seasons, Steve067].

So here we all are, RX-8 winter warriors....bring it on....Semper Paratus

Just ordered a set of tires + wheels from www.tiretrends.com - picked up the Hankook W300s (V rated) with a set of FRD-128 wheels.....noone local could beat the price....shipped from BC within 3-5 business days - so it should be here by the weekend (hopefully - supposed to snow on Friday)

Hi Everyone ... I'm checking out all your prices and I feel obliged to let you know that just today, I got a quote (and placed my order) for Toyo Garit's at $1,500 plus taxes, so that's like $1,725 total. This is from AVANTE MAZDA in Richmond Hill. I haven't found anyone else who's gotten a better deal. Anyway ... I hope this helps some of you out.
Happy winter zoom zooming!

Okay, I need to get my winter rims and tires and this is what I'm thinking of getting. I read the threads with my jet lag and decided to post what I'm thinking of doing. If you find anything wrong with what I'm planning to do this weekend, please tell me.

Toyo Garit HT 215/55-17 $198 + (steel at 690kg/ rim) Rims + install/wheel balance + Tax = $1600.80

I really appreciate it.

Hobbes, for that price you can get aluminum rims I beleive. Also the tires you are getting I beleive are H rated, not that you will go over 210KM/hr! FYI, if you don't mind going to Mississauga to pick up tires, I started this thread and the very first post gives you all the details of what I got, prices, who to contact and picture.

Aparently, Lou from Mississauga tire already did aboutt a dozen RX8 so far since I started this thread. I know he ran out of my rims but was getting new/slightly different ones. I seen the 215/55 and for some reason they look taller than the 225/50 I have. Doubt it is not off enough to throw off the speedo and DSC.

Thanks for the Info Shamblerock. I might be able to get a better deal greenlane (for the life of me I can't remember their name, but it should be that), I'm getting my wife's car and father-in-law's done there possibly. I rather get alu for the rims, but cheaper the better, winter beaters is all I need. .

Tire and Rim size calculator

Here's a link to help you determine what the best tire and rim sizes to suit your needs should you need to change your tires/rims at some point in the future. Especially helpful for snow tires.

You chose what size your current set up is and what you want to go to and it will tell you the new exact dimensions and also show you a diagram of how much smaller or larger the new set up will be.

Hope it helps you.

Smile Mic! You shamed me into a set of alloys

Hey Mic; you shamed me into buying some alloys. Got a set of powder coated rims; the clear coat/polished rims tend to look bad when the salt water eventually works under the clear coat from stone chips in 1-2 years (from previous experience). Picked them up from Pickering Tire n'Mag for $690 out the door included is re-remount the Hankooks and balancing (see attachment for pic). He also had cheaper wheels ~$125 each, plus tax. I really love my 225/50-17 V rated Hankooks. The steering response and ride with the stiffer sidewalls of the V rated tire is just about the same as the summer 18 inchers. Haven't pushed them to the limit yet, they seem to stick well in cold wet weather.

For those of you with the Pilot Alpin P2's, How are you finding traction on wet pavement? Since it's been quite rainy in Ontario lately, wondering how they hold up for grip? Any tire slip?

Just wondering before I stop driving like a granny with them.

DaddyG, I have the PA2's and its absolutely excellent on wet roads. Furthermore, I don't know about you, but I have hardly and difference in the handling either between the stock re40's and the PA2's. Maybe because of the V rating and extra reinforcement that comes with these Pilots.

Shamblerock - yeah, I can't really notice much difference between the two tires in performance so far. I even hit a patch of snow up north with them, and they handled well. I think they will be well worth the investment in a few weeks when the snow/ice comes.
