Winshield chip....

Hey guys,

I was driving on the highway tonight, and this big trailer in front of me kicks up a small stone that hits my windshield with a loud thud! So, I pull into the next gas station and take a look, and I don't notice anything. I clean the windshield with my wipers, and by now I'm peering over my windshield with a fine tooth comb sort of deal, and finally I notice a small chip - possibly a millimeter in diameter. It is very hard to notice, but if you look realllllyy close, you can see it.

Now, I don't want this thing to grow, so have any of you guys had this problem? If so, what is your advice on fixing this issue, like should I wait till the summer to get it filled? Will it spread and cause more damage with the winter conditions? Should I take it to Mazda, or a "Mom and Pops" Windshield repair shop?

Thanks for your help and God Bless you guys.

Ben.

You can't wait that long to get it filled. Well you could but dirt gets in there and it will not be worth it.

I wouldn't take it to Mazda either, go to Apple Auto Glass.

How much approx. would that cost for such a small fill?

pfft... It's just a chip. Not even a crack. Has a chip ever turned into a crack?

Well, I called Apple Auto glass....they said they would charge $70 plus tax to fill up a small chip/crack! What a rip-off, anyway, I dunno if it's a small crack or a chip, because if you look really close, like I mean with your nose touching the glass, you can see some spider-web design. When I called Mazda and spoke to the service manager, she asked me to leave it alone, as what they would do is drill a hole anyway, and fill it, and then I would have a slight blob on it. She advised me to only fill it if it got worse. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't worry about it. If you can't tell what it is unless you stick your nose up to the glass, I wouldn't concern myself. If it gets worse, then do something about it. You worry too much. Relax. Enjoy!

Well whatever came off the back of the truck (Scrap Metal) almost went completely through my windshield. The noise it made when it hit was sooo loud I almost soiled my pantaloons.

Basically the windshield was destroyed and it was all that I could do to drive it home.

So .. .. my insurance is 500 deductible, and (this is the important part) I have good cause not to want to disturb my insurance company. If you know what I mean. A couple of skeletons in the closet lets say.

So I sucked it up and took it like man and boom, 2g please.
(I'll check my invoice but I'm pretty sure that was the amount)

How much was the windshield? $2000 sounds outrageous for a plain jane windshield.

Ive had several chip repairs done in Edmonton and the standard rate seems to be $30-35 and $15 for every additional past the first.
