Winter detailing meet: Saturday Oct 30
Date: Saturday Oct 30, 2010
Time: 0900
Place: Maffu's house (PM him for address) somewhere near Leslie/Steeles
Let's put it out there guys, if it is raining on SATURDAY MORNING, it is an AUTOMATIC cancellation. Do not even show up.
If it is raining Friday night, but cleared overnight and is slightly damp on Saturday morning, but drying, we have a chance!
Equipment and material on hand:
most of my detailing chemicals and my Meguiars dual action polisher.
Will be doing the full semi-annual detailing:
- wash
- clay
- wash
- dry
- step 1 paint cleaner
- buff
- step 2 polish
- buff
- step 3 carnauba
- buff
- seal with Autoglym
- buff
- tireshine (if you already have winters on, or tire clean if you are going to be removing them soon, it would be good idea to scrub them down clean prior to storage)
after lunch
- wash interior leather seats
- vacuum carpet where necessary
- do inside windows
We're meeting for IKEA's $1 breakfast at 0800 at the willowdale location (Leslie/401).
If you are coming, you should bring your equipment too/chemicals too.

Im pretty sure the previous owner rust proofed cause i see yellowish greasy stuff in the door hinges and hood hinges. Not sure when he did it though

That's a good question. My friend thought that way too. Now he can't undo the wheel well rust that's developed on his Protege.
It only took that 1 year he didn't get it sprayed.
I'm low on cash as well. But I'm making sure I get it done before the salt starts to fly.

I did mine at Krown last week, don't know what got to me. I said I'd keep this car forever, yet I completely overlooked rust proof protection from day 1. I'm doing it now starting, though I already missed the first 2 years of winter driving that I did with no rust proofing.
As I examine the underbody, there is minor rust developing at the front side of the rear wheel arches

I've already stored my car.. Kind of. I need to do a few more things like put a tarp underneath it, plug the exhaust tips, and take out the battery. I figure I didn't need a wax, so I just gave it a good wash after the cruise.
Is there anything I'm overlooking? I've never stored a car for the winter.
But yeah, I might come on saturday to help depending on what work I have to do.

^ I haven't put my car away ever for the winter but I know people put their car on jack stands .. So they don't get flat spots on their tires or something. I could be wrong lol

Don't put the car on jackstands, it can bend the frame sometimes. Just inflate the tires over spec.
Wool in exhaust tips not needed, unless your storing it in a barn or have problems with vermin.
Just put battery on trickle charger.
Fuel stabilizer in full tank of gas, and oil change prior to storing.
Car cover if parked in a dusty area.
I was going to do it today, when do you expect to be done Footman?
Sunday won't be fun, since most of your bodily parts will be sprained.

LOL me the guy who sat 2 seats away from you at Chako's
also let's start a list, so I know who's going to be coming, I'd prefer not to have too many people as my driveway is only a 2-car driveway, so we can only fit a certain number of RX-8s
so meet on Saturday at Ikea 8 AM (Leslie and Sheppard) for breakfast, come later if you don't want to meet up in advance for breakfast.
