Tirerack now charges a flat-rate for custom, so no more random UPS brokerage charge, just a flat $30 fee. There is also a tariff on the tires if they weren't made in the US. So, GST + PST + $30 + tariff (several % I think).

Sometimes you can find tires crazy cheap on tirerack, so it's worth a look.

Don't get the Pirelli Snowsport unless you park the car when it snows. It's an amazing dry-biased winter tires, but horrible in snow.

Zerobio,

Why not the newer LM-25's? They're like $2 - $5 more I believe.

Aside from the speed rating, Tirerack sez they're "near-equivalents":

Thread from another forum.

Mind you, that response was from three years ago, saying that the LM-22 was being phased out. It's still around...

go tirerack.com

with the 1:1 US exchange rate... a set of 4 LM-25's shipped with duty charged is still only $1080 CAD!

I was going to get the LM-25's (and still might) but the mechanic I was talking to said he likes the tread on the 22 better so I was taking his advice. Still considering.

Check fountain tire, kal tire.. those guys. Cant remember who sells what, should say on their websites.

I wasnt so lucky to get a deal.. I skidded into the dealer and drove out nicely.. LOL. Waited a few days too long... word of warning? Stockies on snow/ice... and that is if you can get going even..

early_30's_crisis: Yeah I found that out the fun way this summer with a freak blizzard in jasper. The car was almost uncontrolable. Fortunatly that little run in is ensuring I get the tires I need well before the first snow

Found some LM-25's at a Kal Tire near me. They are "Take Backs" but the price is right, $1050 installed.

They are in "like new" condition so im hoping it pans out.

Anyone have experience or recommendations on "take backs"?
