Okay guys I need help. I may need my car in winter so I am looking at purchasing some winter tires.

These are on the car now... 225/45R/18

I want rims and tires. What sizes and make would you suggest?

 

I have 17's on for winter. I have 235/45/18 for summer on work wheels. For winter you could swap them onto your 18" rims or you could buy some cheap alloys in size 17 or 18......16's are too small as we have large brakes on our cars. I have alloys, but one was vandalized and the rims are on back order for 12-16weeks, so if you do get rims get ones that are readily availiable. I have to buy one one steel rims to replace that rim. I would suggest Dunlop winter sport M3's or Bridgestone blizzak lm-22 or lm-25's or , ws-50. You wont be dissapointed with any of those tires. Dont go any wider than 225 and you'll be laughing.

There was a thread about winter tires around here somewhere...

Regardless, you probably want to go slightly smaller in tire size. You can't go to 16's, but you can go to 17's.
Alternate sizes available would be 225/50/17's or 215/55/17's. For winter use it is better to go with 215/55/17.

You can't go wrong with Blizzaks!

 

Yea... Gecko69 pretty much covered all the points to look out for. I'm running 225/50/R17 Hankook Icebear W300s on steel rims (17x7) for winters. The bolt pattern for the car is 5/114.3.

225 width: 17" tires

M3'2 - approx 600 - 650
lm-22 - " 550 - 650
ws-50 - " 500 - 600
ws- 60 - " 600 - 700

215 width : 17" tires

M3's - approx 500 - 550
Lm-22 - " 450 - 550
ws-50 - " 400 - 500
ws- 60 - " 550 - 650

anyways, theres a very good start, later! ( I'm approximating a little high as well )

first thing is....looks like you have decided to go with alloy rims.......find the ones you like and then research the prices. Then decide which tire you want....generally speaking your dealer should have a few tires they offer at a " special " price....but if you want something different then you will be charged an arm and a leg usually. Haven't looked too much into those tires......so cant comment on them. lloks like you are heading in the right direction......basically comes dowm to whats more important to you.....looks or price.

 

I got my hankook icebears (which are also v-rated) for 1000 tax incl. on steel rims from tires23.com. I think someone got them for 800 tax incl (which means I got hosed - though still a decent price) from the same place.

4 tire-tote carrying cases. Taxes, duties, shipping, all inclusive to your doorstep for $1040 USD, which is < $1000 CAD.

Then, take it to a garage to just mount tires, balance and install.. like $80.

Total cost is $1080 CAD.

I'm telling you Leesha, waste of time to buy locally in Toronto.

Oh yeah, I forgot... $50 USD Mail-in rebate in effect for Dunlops now.

As for the OEM rims they are gone and I don't want to use the sport rims from the MS pkg. so I'm getting new ones. Will let you all know the outcome... keep posting suggestions if you wish...Thanks!!

Leesha, the MS rims are 7-spoke I think... so IMHO, your winter rims should be a different spoke just to look different.

I saved mY OEM rims.. I'm mounting my Dunlop Wintersport M3's this weekend on the stock OEM 18" rims

 

I know...It looks more sportier to me...

I should have thought about that before I sold my OEM rims...
