Help with winter tires Please
I just purchaced 2007 RX-8 and now need to buy some winter tires ASAP before the snow flies. If any one knows of a set of tires c/w rims used out there please let me know.
Also, any information on what tires come highly recommended would be greatly appreciated.
I'm located in the Hamilton area and may even consider going over the border for them. It sounds like from reading on this forum that even with the duty it's way cheaper than buying them in Ontario. I'm just afraid that it's getting late to be buying tires and I remember the problems people had last year getting winter snows.

I used Toyo Observe KX Garit's and I loved them! They were 225/50/17.
www.tirerack.com is a great place to buy.
and
www.1010tires.com is a great place to read reviews on tires...
Hope that helps!

Thanks threesac! The guys at work told me about tirerack.com and by chance I found 1010tires.com this morning. I will have to go back and check out what they say about the Toyo's you mentioned. My car has Bridgstone Potenzas 225/45/18, probably the factory tire since there is only 11,00km on the car. I have only owned the car for 9 days and am loving it so far. I just wish that winter wasn't right around the corner. I notice in your post you were commenting in the past tense....you not driving an RX-8 any more or just not for the winter?

If you're willing to drive up to Ottawa, I've got a set of Avalanche X-Tremes on steel wheels that have only seen one season of use. I'd estimate only a few thousand KM on them, actually(only live 10k from work). They're 225/55/R17's and they did really well in snow and slush. If you're coming up here, I'll let you have them for $400.

I highly recommend Nokian Hakkapeliitta R for winter tires. They dig through everything, grip like crazy and last forever. I've never had a tire quite like this. I own 3 sets, the first of which I bought 4 seasons ago, and they still look brand new. You won't regret it.

X2.
I've personally ran the Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi for 2 winters on my old MX-3, AMAZING tire. What sold me on these tires was when I went to rally & rallycross events most of the rally guys had these tires on their daily drivers... Enough said.
But I can remember these tire being EXPENSIVE for a 14" tire when I got them for my old MX-3. I couldn't imagine what a 17" or even an 18" would be...

So looks like I might have to pass. Great deal, I just wish it were closer to home. Thanks.
