Can anyone definitively say if the tach registers while cranking in a healthy ignition system? People seem to be adamant about both answers. I would think the PCM would send the tach signal over CAN to the cluster as it sends its signals to the coils. This'll help in my troubleshooting a no spark rebuild I've been tinkering with.

It should be sending the tach signal over CAN, but the cluster is basically powered down while you're cranking so the tach doesn't show anything. Pretty easy to test if you're within reach of an RX8...
Also why is this in an ancient for sale thread?
