Cruise Control
Once thing I noticed about the UK car is the lack of cruise control.... which I think is a bit of a shame, since I find it quite useful...
Any thoughts on the chances of being able to retro fit this feature since it's available in other areas...
And before you say, "But it's a manual"... I had cruise control on a manual honda, and it was fine...

I have Cruise Control On my MX-6. It is possible to use it in any gear but you cannot set it to a speed below 40mph.
The system seems to be fairly simple, it appears to try to keep the car running at the set speed using the required revs for the gear your currently in. Changing gear isn't possible as depressing the clutch or brake pedal disables the Cruise system.
What is nice about the system is it seems to be implemented as a servo motor attached to the accelerator pedal. So the pedal moves up and down as the car adjusts the power required. This is great when you want to overtake or override the Cruise syetem as there is no dead pedal movement.

Yeah, my honda one was the same...
I did figure out how to completely bemuse it though... get the car up to 50mph or so...
Set the cruise, then cancel it. Now put the car in neutral (still rolling at 40+) and hit the resume button.
They REALLY should have had a sensor to tell the thing not to engage in neutral.. LOL.. it'll rev up to the redline and keep going... no rev limiter either... you have to cancel it real quick..

I have the 6spd manual, it has cruise, in the US and Canada we get cruise on the manual.
It disengages when you hit the clutch or brake. So you could in theory pop it out of gear into neutral without touching the clutch and it would rev like crazy.
It works really well, I assume because the car is drive-by-wire. When you hit the SET it is set instantly no guessing like some systems. It stays at that number perfectly.

I have cruise control now on my Honda CRX. I almost never use it. Only use it when I'm trying to stick to a constant speed (like in roadworks on the motorway when I know there's a camera unit around somewhere).

I know Toyota estima hybrid can be added the cruise control by just adding the crusie control switch because the c/c system is integrated to the ECU. And all model has the same ECU to reduce the cost.
Of course, to do this is out of warranty. And a little bit dangerous because there is no official coments from Toyota.
I am not sure if this applies to the RX-8.(probably not)
But, we have navi tv antena implemented in the rear window for all the model to reduce the cost(at least in Japan)
I wish the similar rule applied to the c/c.

Blueadept, I could'nt agree more. I will miss C/C because I used it on long journeys up and down the land to visit my scattered family, in my Carlton. It means oyu can sit in a more relaxed manner, with your right foot tendons showing lower signs of ache. Its also useful for roads with high numbers of speed cameras and a police force (West Mercia) that has zero tolerance to speeding.

Well, perhaps we should do some digging... if indeed it's all in the ECU and just requires a few switches to be connected... I'd be happy to pay a reasonable amount to have that done...

Some weeks ago on the Motor Drive Live in May I asked one of the marketing guys from Mazda about cruise control.
He informed me that it was Mazda Europe's decision not to spec it within the 'European Mazda' spec. This seemed a little stupid at the time since the unit cost when fitted at the factory would be a lot cheaper than an after market fitting. In fact, he told me that they were considering offering cruise control as an extra, however, it would not be an integral fit.
I also don't see the difference between an owner wanting it on an MT car as compared to an AT car.
I think they got it wrong again!
