Unhappy Gutted - looks like the RX8 isn't the car for me...

I've got my test drive tomorrow but I took one of the guys who is in the car share with me to have a look at it this afternoon. He loved the car but when we tried to sit him behind me on the passenger side to replicate what it would be like for him and the other guy in the car. We found that we could only just squeeze in and the other guy is a good 3 inches taller than me.

I won't be cancelling until I get to try all 3 of us in an RX8 without a moonroof (as I think this made it feel even more claustrophobic.) The back is fine for the passengers (didn't feel too enclosed as others have reported) but there just wasn't enough room.

At this point in time I feel totally gutted because the wait for the car I really want to own is nearly over but it may not be practical enough a car for me.

Now how do I put this .....

Whoever is in the front is going to be fine and the guy in the back is going to find it a bit cramped (BTW the sunroof does make a big difference) ...

You said they were your mates right? ....

So decision made ... stick with the car and your mates can take it in turns in the back

Andy,

Surely you must be able to find a way round this. I think not having the moonroof will help.

How long is your daily journey? Tell them that real mates would be prepared to be a bit uncomfortable in order for you to get the car you want.

Worst case let the tall guy drive and you sit in the back!

I just can't get my head around the concept of buying a car based upon whether or not my friends would be comfortable in the back...

Family, yes. If I had kids and needed to fit them in and it wasn't comfy it's a different story, but friends can either take the lift or go in their own car, I'd be buying the car I wanted.

I'm hoping the moonroof will make it feel less cramped. The other two spend 2 1/4 hours of my 3 1/4 hours a day in the car. The guy who went with me said the same thing - he was prepared to be a bit uncomfortable but the other guy already moans that its a pain getting in and out of my coupe - I was hoping the 4 doors of the 8 would shut him up on this!

Letting the tall guy drive my 8! No way - he's written off 3 or 4 of his own cars plus had numerous other prangs so thats not an option.

At the end of the day if it's just a matter of them being slightly uncomfortable then sod 'em but if it is very tight it's not fair for that sort of length of time in the car. I'm not sure that we can physically fit both of the guys in the 8 together - it might not be a matter of comfort.

Jon

Its a financial consideration at the end of the day. If I only shared the journey with one guy then the extra mileage and petrol would make the cost of owning the 8 too high anyway.
