Mike,

You're not A11 VXT on vx220.org.uk are you?

I went on there very recently and saw someone mentioned they were selling their VXT for an RX-8. As it happens I have a 48hour test drive in a VXT this weekend and may be considering one soon....

Thanks for the responses guys, feeling a little better now. I spent 4 days in hospital , first time since I was 2 and not a pleasant experience!

I still like the RX8 a lot, it's a beautiful car with good performance. It's just that after the wait, having seen it a few times, some negative press, fuel consumption concerns and trouble getting my two passengers in I'm starting to wonder if spending £23.5K on a new car is sensible when I already have a 4 seater coupe which has I suspect equal or better performance.

As we've discussed before, for some of us this car is a major step up in amount of spending on a car, and the first time I will have taken the residual 'hit' for buying a new car for myself. I'm already buying the RX8 with my heart rather than my head, the delay has only given me too much time to reflect on this which in turn has dulled the excitement. I do work in IT after all and we have to apply logic sometimes!

I'm going to wait until the dealers get their demo cars in and then take another test drive (this time in the hi-power) with both of my passengers and I'm sure that if they fit I'll still be buying. Its then time to sell the shares , clear out my current account, find a buyer for the T5 and get a big loan for the remainder! Thank goodness I'm not an accountant or I'd never be buying it! :p

Same for me Andy. Have never contemplated a new car before.
However having done some sums recently my perspective has changed.
Why? Well my current used car has lost 12k in depreciation over 3.9 years and has cost me almost the same in maintenance and accessories. Add them up and what do you have? A high power RX8 with leather!

It used to be suicide to buy new but unfortunately the **** has fallen out of the used market as well what with the cheaper new cars etc.

Well my current car has lost 50% of its value in the 3 years that I've had it (1.5 yo focus to 4.5 yop focus, £8.5 to £4k).

I've spent very little on maintanance, £25 on a new part, servicing and consumables. But it does need several things looking at now, and I dont want to at this point in time...

I've never done the new car thing before either, and both my wife and I always said we'd do it at least once (the new car thing that is).

Unless a similar situation comes along again (with no 2nd hand moddels available) I wont be doing it again either.

* hoping depreciation doesnt hurt to much with the 8 *

May even get some profit if sold in the first 6months? thats if I realy dont like it - god knows what I'd buy in place of it tho.

I'm still not looking forward to getting it - been to long I guess, will brighten up when I have a real date. I am looking forward to taking aweek off and thrashing it round the lakes/scotland

Will probably be visiting this place for a few days then up to scotland for some fun
