Luxury Mats?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the standard mats and the luxury mats? From the picture in the accessories catalog the only difference other than the £20 looks to be the red edging and red RX-8 logo.

Apparently it's also a finer pile ... that's all ....

But press your dealer and they should give you them for free

Should the drivers mat be fastened down at all ?
The mat has a 'hole' in one corner unber the drivers seat, which looks like it would secure the mat, but there is nothing to fasten it to.

I remember that in the main forums the american cars had a fastener which was sometimes forgotton about.

Can everyone check their drivers mat please ?

The luxuary mats have a finer pile, and they actually feel slighly better quality than the carpet. They also have a red or white trim line round the edges, plus logo. The standard mats just have the logo.

Cheers

The hole is for fastening them down, I used to have some on my Puma. You screw a plastic toggle in to the pile of the carpet, mat goes over the top, toggle comes through the hole, and you turn it a quarter turn to keep the mats in place. For £60, I expected this to be done....

jimbobjoe,

I was thinking the same, mat that looks like it should be secured but nothing to secure it to.

Could pose a safety issue as they tend to move around quite a bit.

Aha! Found its mounting plate, it was in a clear bag in the drivers door. A piece of angled plate that fixes beneath your seat, follows the angled contour of the footwell and ends in a toggle. Mat sits over the top, toggle comes through, turn toggle quarter turn and it locked in position.

For £60, I thought the dealer would have fitted it though??.

Hmmmm. I asked the dealer on Friday and was told that they could not fit the retaining toggle to the car without removing the drivers seat.

They have contacted Mazda for advice. If anyone has had the toggle fitted successfully (either by the dealer or themselves) I would be very interested to hear.

JimbobJoe, I already posted something about this somewhere. All you need is a philips head screwdriver...

The fitting instructions are for the european cars and so implies the fixer goes under the passenger seat.

I did my own....dead easy...

Attaching the peg under the drivers seat is normal pre-delivery prep here in the states. There's nothing to it, and you don't have to remove the seat. Takes about 2 minutes. Once it's there, the hole in the mat fits right over it and keeps the mat snugly in place.

The floor mat hook seems to be a pre-delivery step this was heavily overlooked here in the States when the 1st batch of cars arrived. Apparently my dealer just threw my hook away because he didn't know what is was used for. I only discovered this after reading the information here in this forum. My dealer is in the process of procuring and installing the floor mat hook.

My dealer is fitting the retaining clip this saturday. It will be done by one of the sales staff as he is the only one with small enough hands! This is after they called mazda UK for advice.

Like voodoo said, it was heavily overlooked, at least in early deliveries. I found mine in a bag in the glove box, and only learned from a post on this forum what it was for. When I went back to the dealer to install it, it took less than 5 minutes. No seats were removed nor animals harmed during installation.

I ordered the luxury mats for my Titanium 8 but the dealer just called me and told me they are not available yet. So I have to take the standard black ones and order for the brown/black mats later. Dealer first charged me € 20,00 extra but know I will have to pay the mats for the full pricing.
A lot of extra's are still not available in the Netherlands. No wonder, for I will be the first to order them. There is no stock of anything, even not of cars. A handfull 8ths arrived last week, no one on the road yet.
Saw my first in London last saterday, on a short trip by Stena HSS.

Regards to all of you.

Eric

The dealer where I got my mats said that many people don't bother fitting the peg and bracket as the mats don't seem to move around anyway.

So I didn't bother with it, and sure enough the mat has stayed exactly where I put it. It looks like it's one of those little gadgets that some owners will enjoy fitting, and others will just sling in the bin - with both camps being happy with the outcome.

The drivers mat does move around and I found it a pain to secure. I have went to the trouble of buying the proper tools and still can't get that screw to budge.

My seat is being looked at for creaking anyway so I'll ask them to secure it then.

The mats should be secured by the peg, which should be fitted by the dealer.

Once they work out how to do it, it only takes 5 minutes.

Mazda UK have been advising on fitting instructions on these, so go back to your dealer and get him to do it.
