Monaro vs. RX-8
#51
I was in Sydney and Melbourne last Jan...drooled over the Monaro..it does look beautiful...but am glad I have ordered an RX8. I have done the big engine stuff. When I worked in Melbourne in the 90's, I had a reps car (5 litre V8 multipoint fuel injected Ford Fairlaine)..

There should be a review somewhere about this 2 cars... should be close.
I like both I admit... but I think the Monaro is going to drink more petrol? Someone told me they have done a 30L/100km??? Try that in your 8? (hehe)

I think that Monarocountry has summed up the Monaro pretty well. What it does, it does well. However, it isn't a sports car (at least the way I define it, which has more to do with the shear exhilaration of driving than straight line power). At the end of the day, its heritage is a Holden Commodore (read Chevy Lumina in Middle East markets). Yes, the Holden engineers have done a great fairy godmother job on the Cinderella Commodore, but the haven't built a sports car from the bottom up like Mazda has done with an RX-8.
It's also an image thing , too. I hate to say it, but I'm not really the Monaro type. The RX-8 fits us like a glove.
