PCM reflash
#2
So far, talking with the dealer (friend of mine), there is no reflash or even the least TSB on the RX8. Will check regularly with him.
It is likely that, due to later release in Europe, some of the fixes of these US re-calibrations are already included in the EU calibration. We'll soon know anyway.

I won't try the brake tap method as apparently it resets certain devices like the adaptive fuel for example. And anymay it might not prove anything as EU ans US cars most probably have different softwares and calibrations.
The day you'll need a re-flash, you'll get a letter from Mazda...

IKnowNot'ing,
I sure hope so, but from what i've understood from some US threads not all dealers know about the latest "M flash" or just don't take any action untill customers complain about bad starts.
Our trust is in your friend!!!
b.t.w. May I call you Manuel?:p

Check out: Tech&Performance, Tech Garage: thread "M" flash review. A post on page 1 by Tall Corn about the Vin numbers. (He got it somewhere else on this forum) Above a certain Vin number no flashes are required.

My car's going in on Monday, to have the flashes applied.
Service person said there was a few amendments that were going to be made, but couldn't be more precise as the Service Manager was out.
Will cure the 4th port not openning properly at 6500rpm amongst other problems.
Will post any differences I get in performance and fuel economy.

Let us know...
Yes - great stuff. I will also check the Vin numbers thing as suggested.
See if you can find out if they are refering to "M" or whatever references on the flash updates.
My boss has an RX-8 already (mine now ordered, I expect to have it late August) - his broke down last week trying to start.
Maybe we should put a UK/Euro vote up about numbers of people who have had the problem?

Here is what was said in the earlier thread from Tall Corn:
"Ok, I found a link last week here to a service bulletin - 01-011/04 issued 04/12/2004 - it states in the description that in your VIN is JM1FE17**40135537 or later you have the "M" flash and do not require a updated calibration.
Well, as it would be, my VIN in below this so since my dealer in Arlington, Texas - Hiley Mazda - is going to do some interior console replacement that got scraped up during final delivery detailing, I might as well have them do the flash while they have the car.
While we're on the topic on VIN - would anybody know where or even if there is a reference site with Mazda that if I were to enter my VIN it would tell me everything about my car - mechanically and otherwise?
That would be really cool - and it would compliment my new manual I just bought, also.
Tall..........

I just got the new flash!
On screen it shows as xxx-G, so no resemblence to the US 'M' or 'L' versions.
An interesting thing is the PCM is shown as
Europe/General/ Japan calibration so the mystery of the JDM version is probably just a mystery. I'mean being 250ps factory.
My first impression: there is no power surge from 7500, just a linear pull (maybee the mentioned torque drop is gone around 6500 ?).
More to follow.

I've just called my Mazda dealer in Thionville (France). He told me there's no update available, and no updated is needed. The reason is that we're received rx-8 well after US & Japan market, so the PCM is already the last version.
IKnowNot'ing, I'm curious about the result of the upgrade, keep us posted ...

EU PCM update done today
I'm back from the dealer.
Here are the details (for Belgium anyway) of the PCM update for both Hi and Std Power :
Service Bulletin reference : B-003-04
VIN addressed by the bulletin : from start of production to VIN ending 117330 (mine is 104***).
WDS file name : unknown, but refers to WDS CD-Rom version B31.
We'll see how it goes.

Heh, mine ends with 119***, so I should already be up to date.
At least the few times I started it to move it around the dealer's garage, I never had any problem. And these are definitely short moves
Allez, only 2 days left before I free her from the dealer's custody :D

I would say that with 1500 rpm up it will probablby arrange the hole i have passing the 4th gear.
In fact I think the (étalonage) of the box is not so good between the 3dr and the 4th gear.
For all the rest I m very proud and happy to drive this car. My old car was a mitsu starion wide body with the 2,0 l turbocharged.
Rotary is a opposed philosophy... all the potential is up.

Yes, I feel the same drop in RPM going to 4th gear from 3rd. But as I mentionned in my PM, the Std Power is limited in RPM not for hardware integrity reasons but because intake air get to Mach speed around 7500 rpm which yields to incresed restriction.
