RX8 - 228bhp to the full 250ps

Just wondering has anyone in the UK tried churning out the RX8 bhp to the full potential of 250ps as for the JDM? What will be the mod needed to get the supposingly horse power out of it without some major modification? Your advise will be very much appreaciated.......ta. Since the reason why UK RX8 is having a less bhp due to emmission control and does this mean it has something got to do with the exhaust system or ECU?

Its probably 100% down to the ECU.

Unfortunatly thers no way of sorting this out so far without a piggy back system like canzoomers mod.

The ECu code we have at the moment is for euro stage 4, comes in in 2005/6 I think.

Euro stage 3 (us now) is the same as Auz, and 240ps (238bhp). We could run legaly on that. Mazda chose to go for euro 4 for political reasons I bet.

Unfortunatly the EXU is hevily encrypted and UK dealers wont flash to foreign maps, and you cant just buy an ECU in japan, it has to be swaped with the old one and/or flashed at dealers too.

Hardware is IMo the same.

that's bad news man. Coz if it has something to do with the ECU then it is gonna be a lot complicated. Any idea how much does the piggy back system "canzoomer" cost ?

You can also go with the Greddy E-Manage for about $350.

Installation information is HERE

Wow MazdaManiac so much iinfo from you and really appreciate that. Wow you are just too good and I cannot believe it. But having said that I think it might sound just a little too technical for me and for that reason I might prefer the canzoomer system over the Greddy sys...... maybe I gain enough of technical knowledge as you will I consider Greddy. By the way any report saying that the canzoomer or the Greddy makes huge diff to the fuel consumption ? Coz fuel prices over my region is rather high therefore not too keen in paying high petrol bill.......

uh - bad news.

No chance of fitting canzoomers mod.

Not on UK cars , mazda have gone over the top on thatcham requirements and encased the ecu in a security case with 9 bolts you cant undo. Cant get at the plugs.

Hmm, on the same note as the original topic...

Concerning our 192hp Low-Power, I saw somewhere they would have been originally rated at 210 (lp) versus the 250 (hp).
Anybody thinks we could get back those 210hp ?

That would be for those AT and 5-MT around :D

Shear bolts

Chatting to a mechanic at mazda he said it was possible to remove these shear bolts. All u need is the special tool which im sure u can buy from snap on. HE said that if the ecu goes wrong they have to get to it somehow. So it is possible to get to the ecu!
As i say, if it goes on, it will come off!

Well I've just got at least 15bhp extra back on my high pressured 8 by:

K&N airfilter element(replaces restictive Mazda one)
Borla exhaust(oh what a beautiful sound)

The exhuast weighs a lot less than the standard, so the HP gains appear more on a lighter car.

Also had the new fuel maps.

She breathes in and out a lot better now and pulls so much better at higher revs.

And the warranty isn't void as would be if you put the ECU mod on.
