Sales
The general discussion page has an interesting thread on Japanese sales for the 8 being 5 fold that expected!!! Makes great reading and more positive information.

yeah but the Japanese are nutz for any new stuff/tech.
Uk will be like
"So tell me again, how many pistons does it have?"
"I heard rotaries eat babies!"
"A friend once saw an RX-7 near a garage"
"They put the doors on wrong!"
"eww a 1.3 sports car?"
We dont "get" new tech here that much , especialy when it comes at a £22k price tag and there are other choices out there.
Saying that 3500 for year 1 I think they'll sell out easy.

I don't believe this 500% figure. The article says Mazda expected to sell 1000 a month in Japan and they currently have orders for 5000, so there's a 5 month backlog which means it's obviously doing well. But how does this mean that they are selling five times more than expected? That would only be true if Mazda only expected to have 1000 orders at this stage - very unlikely as they expect more than that even in the UK.
It sounds like it was written by someone with a jounalists approach to statistics - just randomly fiddle around with a few unrelated numbers until you get something that gives you a good headline.

I heard that it was only 2000 for the first year.
Also they reckon that they now have almost 1000 pre-orders.
I think that when the car arrives in Sept there is going to be a big demand for it.

I presume that they are only shown as sold once the customer has taken delivery. The export table will be zero as none had left the country in April.

Ok...pity the table does not show the 'pre-ordered' number....
it would be great to see :
production April : 2301
pre-ordered April ( and customer waiting) : 99999

BTW...thanks for getting the info in the first place.
Can't help but think that the May figures will lay the foundation for residual values for the 8.
The car deserves so much, and I hope that it gets the market approval for its ingenuity, world winning engine design and its alternative thinking approach to practicality.
Surely, this must mean market demand will be high, and so will residuals?
It makes me want to yell from the hilltops...'' do you, Mr motoring public realise what a great car this really is?"
