Service Intervals & In gear times

The autoexpress review quotes service intervals of 12,500 miles.

As far as I know this hadnt been published, so have I missed it or are they guessing?

Also, the in-gear times are not very good. But I am thinking that maybe it is because they are actually in the wrong gear to get the best performance (ie revs) from the rotary.

e.g. 40-70 in 4th

350Z 4.5
TT 4.4
Clio 4.7
Alfa 5.3
RX8 6.2

Now if the RX8 was in 2nd or even 3rd I think it would be a different story.

Even so, the RX8 is still second slowest in the 30-70 through the gears times:

350Z 5.5
Clio 5.5
Alfa 5.5
RX8 6.1
TT 6.5

But only by a 0.6 second margin. I wonder what gear they were in at 30 - I would guess 2nd.

Maybe this is all down to the torque issue and I should have posted it on the other thread

I think 2nd gear goes up to 68mph, so 4th for 40-70 is totaly the wrong gear for speed. EDIT I think 1st goes up to 40something

As for servicing, US has 5000-7500 mile service intervals. Dunno why we'd have different , but US tends to do 'juts oil/filter' changes much more frequently than here, rather than full dealer services.

Yes this is the torque thing again.
If you enjoy overtaking in 4th gear , then it is important.

If you enjoy dropping it and actually *driving* it is not.

You decide....

This is why the Gold GTid is sold a 'faster in gear acceleration than an impreza WRX' . Yes , because it is all low down torque.
In an actual performance test a WRX would *murder* the diesel golf.

M.

PS - Diesel. (shudder) yuk.
