Some more info on Deliveries
I have been told by Mazda that everything is going to plan an that that everything is back on track after the delay in the start of production.
The first boat will be on water on August the 20th and will contain the dealer's cars (though not sure how many - see other thread regarding dealers having 1 or 2 cars). This boat will also contain some customer cars but they cant confirm exactly how many and whose cars until the boat has left and is on water.
Speculation on my part, but this sort of ties in with copperbands thread of 250 dealer demo's, 250 showroom cars and approximately 500 customer cars.
The next production month of approximately 1000 cars will be on the water roughly a month later, i.e. Sept 20th. This implies that if your car isnt in the first batch of 500 or however many, it will be another month before your car arrives.
Personally, I think it is a good thing that dealers are getting their demo/showroom cars first, as I do want to drive a demo before I get mine and it also means they will start getting a lot more orders once people can see/drive the car which is good for demand and residuals for those of us with cars.
As I said before, we will get a letter by the end of the month, stating our delivery month. Mazda have been cautious with these dates so they dont overpromise, so speculation again, but I would expect 1st bach cars to say November, and 2nd batch december.
Once the boat is on water, they will give a more accurate date to those of us whose car is on the boat.
Secnodly, the are still looking at accessories and seeing if there is any way they can offer anything differently to how it has currently been indicated (eg Packages like in the US)
Finally, I MAY be able to get hold of a list of dealers where cars will be over the coming weeks. This information is not going to be published publically, but they are looking to see if it is possible to release this info to forum members so we know when a car is in our local area.
Obviulsly they have concerns that a dealer may get swamped, and the dealers prioity will always be his own customers. If this info is forthcoming I will let you all know.
Cheers
Mark

That implies that if the first boat is on the water on Aug20th , they will be in a position to give us an actual date (if we are in the first batch)
So - What do we reckon chaps ? Is is EP number ?
Is it order date ?
Is it colour/trim combo ?
Who will be in the lucky500 ?
I would hazard a guess that is you have a low EP number , and have ordered a Red car with 2-tone leather , no Nav you should be in with a good chance !

Thanks for the infoMark - good work again.
Being on the 814 in the pre-orders means it looks like the RX8 will be my birthday / xmas present to myself. It still seems a long way off especially when you realise the first cars must all be nearly complete and that they will be on the boat in 6 days!!
Let's hope a competitively priced appearence package becomes available in the UK.
Morgan - the Lucky500 - I like it! I have to hope that in the 813 in front of me there are more than 300 that are either lo-power, not launch colour or have sat/nav, or that they have only made Titanium, Silver and Red ones so far!

interesting info Mark.
This is when you have to ask the question about order numbers etc especially when
1/. They dont build cars to the specific orders
2/. They do build cars to a specific batch run.
3/. Any non-standard mods i.e. sunroof sat nav means it will probably be in the "quick" run
As morgan says if you have ordered Red high powered black interior no modifications and ordered as late as 2 months ago you may be in with a shout for the first run.
Us tit/silvers etc with mods may not see ours before xmas even though we ordered before those "reds"
Of course i may be speculating but i cannot see them modifying the production line to make each individual car from the 1st 500 pre orders.

Sounds just like my car Morgan, I hope so, then I can become a member of the 500 club!!
They have stressed that they are trying to build the cars and deliver them to pre-orderers in the sequence they were ordered, so I think anyone with a launch colour and a low EP will do well.
Seem to remember from ages ago, if you had leather,no nav or sunroof you were likely to be higher in the queue.

"Lucky500" - OK , that name can stick !
I seem to recall that most of the 'first' run were going to be high power with leather....
Could be bad for me
Still , low EP number , Early order date , and Low spec could bode well.....
Gosh - the tension ! ! !

So I'm ep248 with leather (good), but I'm also getting sat nav (bad apparently for delivery time).
This leaves me in limbo - I'll just hope I'm in the 500. :D
Stu
Good grief, I've gone over 100 posts....(a small step when compared to some)

Stop trying to put reason onto the delivery process - you know it will be some random thing that you couldnt have predicted. Just pray the ship doesnt do what that one in the channel did with all the BMW's and volvos on!

I hope I am in the first batch as it would be murder seeing other RX8's on the road for a whole month before I get mine.
What would be worse is seeing the same colour and spec and thinking to yourself I wonder what EP no he/she had.

I was told by my dealer yesterday that MAzda will be writing to pre-order customers next week to advise as to the MONTH of the delivery, and then again in September (probably late September) as to the WEEK of the delivery. Of course that will be to the dealers so depending upon extras it will be some days after that delivery.
Also he said that Mazda were still unsure as to the position regarding the accessories, - the price may include VAT and fitting as they have a had a load of giref over that. (this was suggested in another thread some days ago).
So the bottom line is that 500 lucky pre-order customers may get their sweaty mits on the car within the next 12 weeks.
Considering the wait so far I'm just no bothered any more. Sometime in 2003/2004 would be a bonus.
Still no sight of the picture, but so what, - it's only a picture.
Anyway, it's only a car. It's not as if it's going to save world starvation or anything. - The fact that my motor is getting longer in the tooth the longer that we wait is my problem (and about 999 others I presume).
Pissed Off with bothering any more from Skipton.

I sort of know how you feel.
I am hoping to be in the first batch (because I need to sell my current car before she needs tyres/service , so that will have to be soon).
As for the rest of it (test drives etc) I am not bothered. i.e. if my dealer had a car for the weekend etc I dont think I will go see it. It will only make the wait for mine seem even worse.
So - Hoping for end of October , but that is all...

Ok - I ordered in MAY. Still havnt got my welcome pack.
Mazda have said it should be with me by thursday (today or next thursday>) might be at home.
Have confirmed I'm in the first 1000, and my book is now waiting at the dealership.
I think I'm somewhere in the 700-800 range, with cancelations and low-power+green etc coloured cars I may be in the first 500, but may not.
I'll be very upset if I dont get the motor I was expecting for summer until 2004...

offical launch was once the 8th September so the next date will be picking it out of the air.
Mazda themselves dont know who and what is on the ship yet so how a dealer knows is beyond me.
I spoke to someone fairly senior yesterday as i bypassed the telephone girls and he said they will be in a better position next week when the ship is at sea what is on board.
I would say expect to receive something next week on whether your car is on the boat or not.

My dealer has just told me that my car has left Japan this week in a total shipment of 1500 RX-8's. He has also been told that he is getting his demonstrator in time for the official RX-8 launch on Saturday 25th October and has said that if he was a betting man he would say that I will get my car on that date. Has anyone else had confirmation of this date yet ?

The information you have been given seems quite specific, so I would think is it unlikely to me "made up" and could well be true.
The contrast in information and attitude of different dealers seems remarkable

I just spoke to the Help line and the woman told me that no cars were on the boat yet as production did not start on time, it was apparently delayed until the 1st August.
Mazda are writing to all pre-orders to inform them of this and and give a delivery date. We should expect the letters by the end of next week.
