Surely they know ?

Ref 'Cars on the boat'.

I know we have chewed this in another threas , but it just occured to me while writing a PM reply to someone.

What is all this business about 'They will be able to let us know once the boat is on the water' ?
Surely they know what cars are on the boat ?

I cannot belive they have filled it with a random mix of RX8s and are going to do a quick audit during the first couple of days at sea , and then match them to the pre-orders !

Point is - I really dont see why I cannot be told if my car is on the boat or not. I have paid my money , reserved my slot etc... and they simply *must* have this information...

Something a bit odd about it all......

M.

PS - Conspiracy theory - Maybe they are giving these cars to those who have not yet ordered , allowing them to jump the queue ! Same way as test drives being given to those who have not yet paid as opposed to us who have been waiting 8 months !

Morgan,

You have a good point and Im sure a lot of people are thinking the same thing.

Ive asked Mazda the same questions myself and as soon as I get a reply I will let you know.

Im sure there must be some reasons for this but I cant think of them.

I work for a distribution company and we shift over 100,000 packages a day, and I could tell a customer within reason where their package is at any point in time. They could also log on to the internet and look for themselves.

It seems strange that Mazda only have 1000 or so UK cars built and at over £20k each, and they cant actually tell us where they all are!

Hoefully we will be put out of our misery soon.

I must admit I was thinking the same thing when I read that they wouldn't know what was on the boat until it had set sail!

Maybe they are so rushed to get these cars out that they are finishing building them on the boat and going to paint them there too!!:D

It's a "Gone in 60 seconds" job. All the Japanese owners have had their cars stolen, they're on the boat being converted for RHD where necessary, de-clocked and resprayed. That way we all get our cars and they get to sell another load back to the Japanese through insurance.

surely they must know whats on the boats. They cant just put cars on at random. The way things are going i suspect we wont know where our cars are until the day before we take personal delivery.

Just does not ring true somehow does it...?
What is the point of waiting ?

If the boat is underway , they might as well tell us NOW !

For some of us it is a big deal , as I need to make an informed decision whether to sell my car now (and save on a service / tyres) and rent a car for a month or two.

If my car is in the second batch , I will have to keep it a while longer.

In fact I may call my Mazda dealer and say something along the lines of "I need a car , dont care what it is. I will buy it from you right now , the only condition is that you give me that value back for it in 8 weeks when the RX8 arrives. (or at least minimal loss).
Does that sound reasonable ?

Tell them that they had originally offered you a car on the original date, as such you are now carless. They have the opportunity to decide between losing your business or giving you a courtesy car as if your vehicle was in for servicing to fill the gap until your new vehicle arrives.

Morgan that sounds very reasonable but I think the dealer may not do it. I too am faced with a similar predicament, regarding insurance (due mid Sept). Will probably keep the Focus and take a hit on re-insuring come Oct/Nov.

i had a similar problem as i changed company in June and had to hand back the old car. My dealer was happy to sell me a car and agree to buy it back when the 8 arrived for the same price minus 110 quid per thousand miles i puut on the clock. In the end i got my new company to get me a hire car until the 8 arrived.

i imagine that the reason they can only tell us once the ship is loaded is:

the ship will be like any other and have a schedule departure time
the factory will produce cars and transport cars to the shipyard all the way up to departure time.
they'll then be export departure procedures

therefore mazda will not be in control and will not know which cars actually make it in time.

but now the ship is on the water - please tell us!!

Exclamation How to find out if the cars have been allocated?

I logged in to the mazdarx8.co.uk site. Usually I would get two options in there: To cancel my order, or, to modify my order.

This time, I no longer had the option to modify my order. Instead it said that my prder status was "accepted", somethig I had confirmation of a couple of months ago.

Does this mean that my car has now gone into production or at least got its production slot? This must be a way of working out if we are in the first shipment.

Also, I was told by a dealer that the first UK cars went into production at the begining of this week.

First wave of production has finished.

Started on 28th July , Finished 20th August.
First wave of cars should be 'on the water by now'.

We expect confirmation of whether we are in the first batch next week (although as it is Mazda no-one is holding their breath...)

Morgan.

Just spoke to my dealer who said that he didn't know that the ship had set sail but he had phoned Mazda today about his pre-orders and could tell me that I am in the first batch!:D

Let's hope he's not bullshitting me or I'll get medievil on his *** (Pulp Fiction style!)

EDIT - he also mentioned that one of their pre-orders was for the dealership - it looks like this might be fairly common because I think the dealers felt it was the only way for them to be sure of having an RX-8 for customers to play with as soon as possible.

There is a lot of confusion and misinformation still about delivery dates:

Here are some of the things we have all posted over the last few days. The point is we are all being given confllcting information and we just cant see the wood from the trees.

Come on Mazda, give us some info pleeeeease!! and tell us which version is true.

Agree with Morgan that we need to know as a lot of us have to make arrangements for selling cars, making alternative transport arrangements etc.

Me - "I have been told by Mazda that everything is going to plan an that that everything is back on track after the delay in the start of production.

The first boat will be on water on August the 20th and will contain the dealer's cars (though not sure how many - see other thread regarding dealers having 1 or 2 cars). This boat will also contain some customer cars but they cant confirm exactly how many and whose cars until the boat has left and is on water."

RichardJ - "My dealer has just told me that my car has left Japan this week in a total shipment of 1500 RX-8's. He has also been told that he is getting his demonstrator in time for the official RX-8 launch on Saturday 25th October and has said that if he was a betting man he would say that I will get my car on that date. Has anyone else had confirmation of this date yet ?"

c170673 - "I just spoke to the Help line and the woman told me that no cars were on the boat yet as production did not start on time, it was apparently delayed until the 1st August.

Mazda are writing to all pre-orders to inform them of this and and give a delivery date. We should expect the letters by the end of next week."

AndyPearce - "Just spoke to my dealer who said that he didn't know that the ship had set sail but he had phoned Mazda today about his pre-orders and could tell me that I am in the first batch! "

JonH - "By the way their version of the current situation is as follows:
150 Dealer cars to arrive mid - end October.
240 / 232 / 228 (?) BHP cars to arrive mid- end November
192 BHP cars in December, and all open orders fulfilled by the end of this year!"

DannyA - "The guy was able to confirm that my car (spec and order date in my signature) will be delivered in Oct/Nov and that any Hi-power models ordered now will not come until January. Low power models ordered now will be available in Dec. I asked what the exact shipment dates are and he has arranged for a call back to me on Monday to confirm details. I also asked what the schedule looks like from the Japan shipping date. He was only able to confirm that there would be a 2 week shipping period and from that point on the dealer will be able to track exactly where the car is on his system."

Im sure theres loads more if I trawled through every thread.

I phoned my dealer today and was told that they won't know anything about the status of RX-8s until the cars are unloaded in the UK and are then entered into the Mazda dealership database. Hmmm....

MarkW - Great post.

Summary - Mazda (and ultimately us) do not have a clue when these cars will arrive.
Sorry chaps - it is the only logical conclusion !
