Anyone in sg have problem with their gear/clutch?

I remember reading it somewhere in the tech threads and it happened to me once.

At the traffic light, I engaged gear 1. When I release the clutch, I heard a extremely loud grinding sound(you know the sound you hear when you accidentally engage reverse while on the move? Sounds exactly the same except louder and lower frequency).

Happened once only. Hope it won't happen again. Anybody recall reading it or have encountered it and know how to prevent/solve the problem?

Manwe, have the same car as u, but haven't noticed that grinding noise when releasing the clutch off 1st. Strange that it should only have happened once....perhaps it's just a fluke, the gears/tranny not meshing properly that one time. For sure I wouldn't be concerned if only a one time instance.....

yea.... so far so good. It sounds like the the collars allowed the gears to engage tranny without sync...which is not supposed to. But since it is one-off, i'll wait.

Oh by the way, I think I know why you might have problem with the car jerking...the clutcg's bitting point is low....as in it will engage the gear when the clutch pedal is released very slightly. Maybe you released it too much b4 you step on throttle.

Yeah, that's probably it. Had a friend drive my 8 tonight who's been driving left stick for years...no jerking, doesn't matter on revs...wants to buy my 8

Think changing the flywheel is good. Heard lots of nice stuff about it.

Hmm, changing the flywheel, assuming a lighter aluminum type, would lower the biting point even further no? Does it matter much unless you're planning to drag at Sepang?

You don't have to drag to benefit from a good flywheel. It can smoothen out the vibration and make shifting easier.

Lowering it? No...the flywheel is just another of the gearing assembly connected to the clutch assembly. Lowering it would mean looking at the fork and release assembly within the clutch assembly(adjusting the pedal and clutch linkage).

The only concern is...would we void the warranty if we change the flywheel? They could claim we damage the clutch assembly etc when we change the flywheel...

Silly question here. Read thru the threads in the US regarding performance enhancements. Seems like flywheel is more effective. Has anyone changed the flywheel? Is this flywheel thing relevant to AT models?

AT also has a flywheel but due to the design of the torque converter, it is somewhat different.

I don't think ppl do actually change flywheels for automatic transmissions and you might have a problem finding one that works but i could be wrong.

I am not sure but I think mm may void the warranty...must check b4 installing. If I am on the PI, I would do too cos the warranty is only one year...Think I would still wait till 3 years or 100k(think this is more likely).

Insist that they change it. It should be covered under warranty. This is not normal wear and tear.

I have similar problems sometimes too. What I do is release the pedal, then clutch in and engage again. Maybe when I am doing my next servicing would let them know. But this problem happens in a few cars i had driven b4 so i am not too concerned.
