It is not fair to call people who drive autos stupid. I have always been driving manuals and i love it but i do not discriminate.

Everyone has their own reason to do something. If the auto is useless, mazda will not produce it. Even ferrais have autos and the autos actually are better than the manuals.

I would not really consider the RX8 a true sports car. Mazda is selling it as a high performance saloon. Its not so nice to put someone down on their choice.

 

I agree with Silver Shadow. Manual car has its own benefits. It has better response and better feeling. The auto car has fluidic nature which makes it a little bit weird, at least, for me. The compressibility and slipping of the oil of auto makes the engine response hard to feel. Engine revs faster than the speed that you get. In manual, that won't happen because it's all mechanical. For high spirited driving, I definitely will get manual.
It's not like i'm not having problem with manual in city driving. like you all know, rx8 has pretty low torque at low rpm and low mpg at high rpm. generally, i want to shift up as early as possible to save the gas. But here in the us, most cars have big engine and auto transmission. every time I shift at 3k rpm, i feel like the car behind me getting really close to my butt, which i find it's really annoying. For city driving, sometimes I wished I drove auto car.
Btw, to keep rx8 manual at high power requires a proper heel and toe technique which I think it's not really easy to do for average driver.

I ought,maybe we could impose a special "test" or exam paper to people who can join our RX-8 forum.

The test should be about ethics and general knowledge on why humans made automatic transmission and manual transmission.

 

I was driving home a few days back and i had a bad encountered with a cab. And iwas thinking of how to make the roads a courteous place.

The answer is so obvious, NOT POSSIBLE. There will always be idiots or some people so pre-occupied with their own crappy behaviour to notice there are people out there. Somehow it also comforted me.

These idiots actually make the world seem better. Why? Because it made me realise these idiots are few and far in between. If there is one idiot and i do not act like one; i am better than him. If there are 10 idiots, at least i am better than 10 of them. A stupid people only makes others seem smarter. And the world has alot more smarter people than these sad few.

I do not really believe in divine retribution. What i believe is these fools will cause their own downfall. God does not even have to lift a hand. And so far this theory is always right.

haha a datsun 160? yeah i definitely have a silver rx8... i have had it since october.. i dont try to start **** with ppl in here.. its just whenever i post ANYTHING saying how old i am, everyone gets all pissed because they didnt get rx8's when they were 16.. its not my fault.. all i do is post threads wanting some help with something... and then it turns into sum big arguement which is stupid.. i thought this site was to help each other out with stuff and not **** each other off...

Come to think of it, one of the fastest cars in the world only comes in Auto, the Mercedes SLR....

Now who dares to say autos are not as good...

 

There are pros and cons to both MT and AT. The AT ferrari shifts faster than the MT ones and get better lap times due to better selection and response of gearing.

There will always be purist who insist on MT as this is the most basic and traditional form which also allows them complete control. But this also happens to be the con; no human can shift faster than a machine. And no human can 100% match road conditions, engine load, etc with the correct gearing 100%.

And this is also the cause why some people hate AT; they view it as "cheating"

Then again, driving is well; driving so why should we be so bothered with the technicalities. Just drive.

 

Hehehe...I am a purist when there is no traffic jams.

 

When the are jams; sometime i wish i have auto drive or at least some distronic function.
