Buying a RX8 PI or Resale MM?

Hi RX8 Fans,

I am new to this site. Was looking around to get some advice on whether should i buy a PI or a resale ( 1 yr plus ) rx8 from MM.

Both i presume should be around the same amount of $$ (Ard 90k)

Need your advice as to which is better? I am very concern on the parts and service if buy from PI. As MM will not provide any spare parts to a PI rx8, buying a PI would mean having problem to get parts (I presume). Moreover, servicing is another problem. Rotary engines are quite difficult to handle.

The problem as we all know about the resale car is their reliability.

For those who owns a PI rx8 or a resale rx8, any comments?

Thank you very much for sharing.

Actually, the PI rx8 that cost $90k is the base model lah...not the same as the MM rx8...
MM ones are higher in power n comes with more options...thus cost the same as a brand new PI rx8 even though it's used...

Spare parts wise, dun think MM willing to sell it to PI cars...but then i guess parts can be
source from outside companies...so dun think it is a very big issue? but not sure whether it's more expensive?

Servicing wise, i think it really have to depend u? i know of pple who only believe that
the distributor are the only pple who knows how to service ur car? if u have this belief,
my guess is it'll be better for u to buy from MM coz MM will not service PI cars from what i heard? but i do know theres workshops in spore who have experience with the rotary so u shld have other options if u choose to go for the PI or u choose not to go back to MM after buying the resale car?

anyway, hope this help n gd luck for ur purchase...

which model r u lookin for? 4AT or 6MT or 5MT?

4AT and 5MT, only parallel importers have them, so no need to look to MM.

6MT, both PI and MM brings them in. MM one is full specs however, horsepower is lower. PI 6MT has its pros and cons. Use the search button to find the difference. Topic has been discussed many times over in the this forum.

Parts wise, shldnt be an issue. Just go to a reliable wkshop and you shld be safe.

I'm sure what Coupe07 means to say is that as long as you bring your 8 to any of the many reliable workshops in Singapore, it should be safe and alright.. no need to worry if the car is PI or MM.

Actually I'm quite used to driving auto. As such, i actually dont mind either AT or MT.

My budget is around 90k. I'm very tempted to buy the PI but very concern on servicing, parts, and reliability (as i've seen some saying engines of the PI has some inheritance problems?) If anyone knows of any good servicing garage, can PM me so i can go check it out first.

Anyone having a PI RX8 AT? Maybe can give me your opinion/experience owning one?

Thank you guys for your help

Appreciate it very much

We won't know until we start a poll, but suffice to say there are quite a lot of auto 8s running around, so you don't have to worry. Only "problem" for autos is there are less mods that are designed for the auto, but if you don't intend to mod your ride, then there's no issue. There are a lot of PI 8s and so far we've not heard of any major engine problems. SpeedRX, don't believe all the wild rumours that you hear. The 8 is a pretty reliable car, one of the few cars that you can push around on the track and still be a smooth and easy to drive daily car after that.
