Car grooming in SG - recommendations pls

Hello everyone,

Looking to find a good car grooming place, preferably in the East Coast area...any recommendations?

I'm driving a black colour car and I wash often, hence will appreciate centers that know how to wash the vehicle without scratching etc.

Many thanks.

Cheers,
B

Hi,

DONT EVER go to this Gr**ming Center

Located at AMK Auto Point S* (some"T"hing) 2 letter using "T"****Seal brand polish.

I used to have a black car, the problems is that: even small sticker mark cant remove, i use any "tiger plam oil" also can removed the litte sticker mark and pay a package of $600+

Dear All,

Thanks for your prompt replies.

M Ster: I guess I have a small budget really (<1k?). I'm probably the type who would wax my car every quarter (at least) but have simple good washes and vacumm done quite frequently esp with ppl who know how not to scratch my car. As you know, black requires constant care to keep the shine. I wouldn't go spend couple of grand on grooming though...maybe not until I can afford a porsche one day? :-)

Also, anyone installed a 'clear bra' guard on their cars? If so, would appreciate some thoughts on whether it is really effective and where can I get it done here in Singapore? Some cost numbers would be good. Are their alternatives to the clear bra?

Cheers

hi
just to share my own experience, if you want to have good surface finish, try to wash and polish it yourself.

even grooming centers use leftover soap water and clothes from other cars. This can cause swirl marks while washing. although they have polishing equipment, it may be the same by using hand polishing.

i used to send mine to Groomworks but now i have stopped sending in even though i still have 3 servicing left. The standards, especially the branch at Commonwealth, has dropped tremedously. send in car for normal washing also never wash properly. can still see foam after washing. very jialart.

spend money on a good wash shampoo, polish and clothes and do it yourself slowly. that's the way to go .

Many thanks again to all for your feedback.

I think DIY could be a way to go. But unfortunately, given work demands I doubt I'm able to wash as frequently as I would like. How often do you guys wash and wax your car?

I'm guessing I can probably only wash DIY during the weekends, which is 1x a week. I would prefer to have it washed at least 2-3x a week esp with the annoying acid rains recently in Singapore. So, would be useful to find a good shop where I can take it to for a decent wash if I'm in a hurry/lazy etc.

Btw, I'm also new to Singapore, can someone suggest a good place where I can find good shampoo, wax, clothes etc? Any reconmmended brands that you guys use?

Finally, anyone use the clear bra or equivalent?

Cheers. Hope to meet up with u all soon.

If u are going to spend $1000 per year.

I fully recommend u do the polish yourself, or dont do any polishing at all just wash the car.

If u buy the claybar, polish and sealant products, DIY will only cost u around $100 per year.

Cos u can respray the car every 2yrs at around $2000. if u save $1000 per year from polishing.
But if u really want cheaper Polish. check this out
www.klassesg.com
They will come to u and polish your car at $60-70 and can do it once every 2mths. so the total amount spent will be around $360

If u are willing to try to DIY check out the detailing part of www.mycarforum.com
I learn my polishing skill there.

I basically would classified car grooming into 2 different type.

1. The Classic Wax.
This is your classic grooming system, where your car will be washed, polished (if its very dirty) and then wax. You have a choose of having package from $400 - $15k.... of course the basic one they would use cheap waxes one would never even heard of. and the high end would be your zymol. I'm using these guys 'Groomax' they uses Meguairs, not too bad. I wouldn't say great but decent. below $500 for 6 times within a year. A friend of mine, setting up his new grooming shop, its gonna be mid-end I guess, they will be using Swissol Wax.

2nd Paint sealent:
This system are sprouting up all over singapore. some good, but most are crap. their package are normally a one off paint sealent protection system, and garanteed for 18 months. all you need to do is buy their car wash shampoo and just do regular wash without having to wax the car, ever. To me this is the lazy man system. Take off a lot of hassel out of car grooming. Its good for those who dont have time to take care of the car. Of course you dont expect your car to be in top condition thru out that 18 months la....

the choice is yours.... I normally thought i have time to polish and wax my car. when i got my 8, i went out to buy all this car care products... now they are just sitting there collecting dust... they would probably expire liao...

hahaha

your point 1 - SWISSOL products are superb but darn hard to find in spore. This classic wax method is still the best. Results will base on the products used. Seriously, for polishing n waxing, good products will give u good results and vice versa.

your point 2 - i always tot the paint sealant crap is "how siao". Its more or less the same as the classic wax, but they market it differently. Still prefer the traditional type of polish.

Aiya... your products nvr use, put my place mah.... we help u use....

hmm.... i am using them since 3 years ago, when I was driving the DC5. I have no problem with sticker mark remover when using their products, no even mentioned bird droping. It came off easily and doesn't leave any mark (unless the bird stain has been there for many days, but that will also go away in time to come)
Package of 600+ has to be MPV or SUV ...think Rx8 probably around $400+.
Perhaps there's some misunderstanding with the them that you had?

p/s : just to state that I have nothing to do with the company, and i am just one of the normal customer give my opinion.

Thank you bros for all your comments.

To sum up, I'm more keen to go the traditional waxing route, I don't believe in sealants either. Will try groomworks when I'm busy since there's one near my place at East coast and will also DIY.

Anyone apply or use clear bra or equivalent on their cars?

Cheers,
B

Hi,

I totally agreed about MOST Sealeant protection system CRAP.

Like the XX Auto Grooming center @ AMK Point (2nd storey), they use the sealent protection crap and i think only limited 2-3visit and other visit have to pay a minimum $.
They Cant even remove road tar mark and sticker mark on my BLACK MPV, that is worst the my DIY with a $11 wax.

Now I go to my regular Mobile polish Man only $80/ hse call. Must see his own BLACK Toyota Celica.

yo bro, paint sealant is not 'how siao'.... they are definately not wax... but the thing about the sealant lasting for 18 mths is for sre 'how siao'. After the original paint sealant being introduced (dont know who's who now) they are alot bullshit one came out, thus making this whole paint sealant industries unreliable...

Think til now, there are still alot of people dont even know the different between polish and wax.... Auto Gym is definately a polish..... which actually, not a good thing to be used on the paint works on a regular basis...

yup
autoglym super resin polish is a polish only. And after wiping off, the dust particles might actually induce more scratch marks on the car.

so its not so good afterall......

The thing to be used regularly on car is sealant or wax.......

it depends on how severe are your swirl marks ? it might warrent a machine polish with a good product. hand polishing will not be able to remove them. find out from them what product they are using. a good product should be able to achieve good results the first time thru.
