For the benefit of those who does not have access to SHC forum, here is the article of the link posted by mkl22.

And since it was past the warranty mileage, WOW was contractually NOT obliged to replace the water pump FOC - anyway managed to come to a 50/50 solution - WOW bears half, i bear half of the cost of the new pump + labour.

All fine and good - just suay on my part, i thought.

Why bring up old story?
That's because I just found out that they "cheated" me of $150 by using a recommissioned IU for my new car.

I had a cashcard fault and went to Vicom just now and they told me that the IU was a recommissioned unit manufactured in 2000!! For my 2004 car!!!

That means I effectively lost 4 years of IU manufacturer's warranty - 5 years was from 2000 to 2005!!! like that also can ah - WOW's one year warranty also means you also kenna one year warranty on IU too???

So now if there's any IU fault, I'm not covered.

I don't know what's the industry practice for PIs but to save $150 for a new IU and slap on a recon IU on a $130k car sale!!!

Sorry, WOW - you just lost a future repeat customer and I will never in good faith, recommend anyone to buy a car from WOW again.

IU unit... the pride of singapore. The Land Transport Authority's way of taxing every car in singapore... real time. A product or the ERP (electronic road pricing) scheme

http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matte...toring_erp.htm

Their way of justifying for paved roads, street lamps, painted kerbs, traffic lights, tunnels, flyovers, exressways so on and so forth.

Both my cars from the same PI are reconditioned ones. In fact, one of them even have fine scratch lines on the display panel due to cleaning. I think most PIs are doing this to increase their profit margins...

Wonder if authorised agents use reconditioned IUs... If not, then that's another fringe benefit of buying cars from agent instead of PIs.

I doubt so. I also waiting to listen to their side of the story, but seems like after 4 days, still no sound. Usually they appear very fast when there is potential buyer, but in this case..... Either dunno what to say, or they are coming out with a press release.

There is absolutely no doubt that WOW used a reconditioned IU on that bro's CL7R because the main database at STA showed the same serial number (10 digit number on the IU) as that re-registered to the Cl7R when he got his car in Sept 2004 with 1 year warranty left!!! (cos it was manufactured Sep 2000 and 5 yrs warranty ends on sept 2005). His PI cl7R with 1 yr warranty is really 1 yr warranty!!! (including the IU).

Seems this is a rampant practice amongst PI.

Mine is not from WoW. Anyway, after seeing that thread, I called my SE to ensure that my IU will be new and not recon. He gave me his words, but still.... Only time will tell.

I find it strange too, how come no response from WOW people. Usually response comes quick when a sale is on the line.

Think you need to go to the IU inspection centre. They have a device to read the serial number from your IU and check against their database.

Okie thankx! Do I have to pay for the inspection? Just wondering, if mine is really a used one - what recourse can I have? Sue and complain to my PI?

Can call LTA to check if u know ur IU number. Recourse is almost none unless its stated in ur contract that they give u a NEW IU (they will charge $150 for it). If they say IU and never specify new, then its difficult. At most is the assurance that they will honour the 5 year warranty for new IU (dont know how u are enforcing it though).

Extract from LTA website under IU inspection

"Having problems with your IU? Send your vehicle to the authorised inspection and other appointed centres.

IUs are covered by a 5-year warranty against manufacturer’s defects. You will have to pay for a replacement should your IU become faulty after its warranty period. You may check the warranty period of your IU by calling our customer service line at 1800-CALL LTA (1800-2255 582).

"

Cheers

5 year warranty for a cash sucking location tracking mandatory device? It should be permanently free.
