The cover on top of the engine???

The cover on top of the engine???
Whats is the name of the piece of Plastic on top of the engine?
I find that its way too HOT cos its plastic and the hot air from the engine can escape fast (or no way to escape)
I understand that there are Carbon fibers one. but was wondering if theres any thing made of Alum?
Initally I though of just removing this plastic cover , but found out that the filter box will be rocking if I remove the plastic cover.
Not very good in explaining and hope that some one will understand what I'm talking about and give me advices

Read somewhere that some people have experienced heat issues without the plastic. Perhaps the plastic is there as a heat barrier to prevent the hot rotary from cooking the bonnet. *shrug*

Most of these Enginee Covers are very much for aesthetic then function. Their job is to cover up the messyness of the enginess bay. Your filter box shouldn't be rocking with the cover off, since I have the 4pt sturt the cover was never on my car, without any problem too.

I tend to agree with M-ster...can't see any real functional purpose for the cover aside from as flyer quoted that perhaps it allows less heat from reaching the hood (after a long drive, the cover is freakin hot!) especially since there's no insulation layer underside of the hood. But in the end, I believe the cover is purely for image than designed for anything else. I definitely don't buy the comment about air flow. Some people paint the cover which is a nice accent, but outright replacing it with something else would be waste of $$$ IMO.

I've read the post about the air flow in more than a handful of turbo/supercharger threads, but believe whatever you want to believe. Personally, I kinda like that it keeps the engine out of sight and I leave it on primarily to block the engine heat from reaching the hood. I'd rather cook a piece of plastic than wreck the paint on my bonnet. Just my 1c, but do whatever makes you happy. Isn't that the reason why we bought the 8 in the first place?

One of the first things I noticed before I bought was the nicely finished hood, fenders and trunk. Lots of insulation in the US!.

I think Genesis is mistaken. Our 8's hood has insulation lining.
I have the Carbing brace and am glad I can still put on the engine cover. It's for aesthetics (mainly) as well as airflow (slightly). My BMW as well as many other makes have plastic engine covers as well for the same reasons. And these are usually not user removable so we should be glad we have a choice. My choice would be leave it on.

Yup...I'm mistaken and stand corrected. The insulation is so neatly packed into the hood that I never really noticed it before! Thanks guys for pointing this out.
