Creaking sound from steering column normal ??

Hi Guys,
My less than a year old 8 developed a creaking sound around the steering column area when I turn either left or right. Its getting louder but the guys at mazda motor claim that this is normal.

So in order to find out if its really normal before I go back and "talk" to the manager. I thought I would check with you guys and see if anyone else has the same experience. They have tried lubricating the steering wheel and other things, but to no avail.

Regards,
Yishuen

Of course its not normal!

Those lazy bustards are just to lazy to do a further check.... scumssssss.

Did you have that sound before? if its normal then shouldn't it be there all the time?

Go in and demand them to get it fix! Threaten them, tell them wat happen if half way during driving, that sound develope into something bad and causes the car to loose control, how? Can they garanteen that not to happen?

Dont let problems unsolve.

If they said its normal ask them to right down in Black and white and state that this is normal and its not a problem and it will not affect the safety of the the driver and car.

If they refuse , and if u do not care about face.
Do it again in show room area where theres new customers. and they willl try to talk to u again by asking u to go in the office, cos by doing so they are afraid that it will affect those potential customers in the Show room area.

Thanks Guys, I think the problem here is that they dont know how to fix it as I have brought it in two other times already. So instead of changing a lot of parts, they likely want to cut cost by telling me that its normal.

But I do like the suggestion about getting the manager to give me something in writing as I feel that most companies would be worried about the legal consequences of giving that out to customers and might actually make more effort to honor their so called superior warranty.

Thanks

actually mine developed creaking sound not too long ago. I kept hearing something rattle but didn't realise it came from the steering wheel until i was drumming it(listening to music) and voila...found the culprit. Sounds like something is loose inside but it is probably connected to some spring coil etc as the rattling sounds like it is damped. Would get it checked.

I feel like a smart *** (sorry if that is the case) but I think it will help.

It is a known problem. They might want a print out for futher reference.

It is from the Bullentin hosted by Rosenthal Mazda

Thanks Taka, dont say you're a smart *** man. That's wat this board is, help out each other!

Anyway, dont think its the same case, not at least for me. Cause my rattling sound is from turning the steering itself either if the car is moving or stationary. But the rattle bulletin refer to the engine in the state of high RPM that produces the rattles....

Worth checkin that anyway.

cheers!

Thanks Takashi, unfortunately that bulletin does not resemble the sound that I am hearing from the steering column. Its more of a squeaking sound than a rattling noise.

I am supposed to send it in this week, will let you guys know what the manager tells me.

I have some rattling when i turn my steering while parking. I felt this was normal as the steering ratio is quite tight and wheels are quite fat.

But then again, its still better to get a second opinion. and its best to have everything in writing.
