Cool No diff....

Just check it every second gas fill.

The engine injects oil to the rotor to lubricate it, and the oil level drops slowly. All rotaries do this, surprised the dealer didn't tell you......

yes....check yr engine oil level once every week, top up only when neccessary. more important thing to note is the engine oil you use...wrong oil will have serious consequences.

as for the differences between JDM and MM 6MT...just do a search.....

enjoy yr ride!

Welcome to the club! and congrats on the car.

I would strongly recommend reading your manual. This forum also has an effective search feature to help you navigate all of the material here.

To help us out please add location information to your profile and some information about your car to the garage or to your signature.

Basically you need to check your oil every other fill-up and top it up when it gets a bit low. Normal consuption is about 1 quart per 1500 to 2500 miles or so depending on how you drive with more burn during break-in.

Yup, it's good. If RE is bad for the RX-8, then I really dunno what is good liao. Having said that, I'm still running on mineral.

Yup. Regular Shell mineral as used by MM. Cheap to change, cheap to top-up and can't go wrong with mineral oil on our Renesis.

Just either use Shell Mineral or Fully Syns that are designed for Rotary (RE, Idemitsu, RMagic). The only semi syn i know that's good and for rotary is Trust

You're braver than me... I wouldn't use any synthetic (or semi) not specifically made for rotary engines.

sqflyer, can you give me the exact viscosity of shell mineral oil that can be used for RX-8? I am here in the Philippines and nobody knows anything about which mineral to use. Thanks in advance.

if we are talking abt mineral oil, then it doesnt have to be brand specific. Sporeans use shell becos spore Mazda Motors tie up with Shell.

For mineral oil, any brands will do. generally mineral oils have higher viscosity

Have to agree with Sqflyer here - I personally would never use syn or semi-syn in my car.

Just paranoid that syn, even the ones specifically engineered for rotaries, will not burn as cleanly as minerals. That can and will lead to a buildup of sludge which would ultimately mean that ur engine is farked.

Just my 2c (*raises flame shield*)

Yup I'm with sqflyer too....been using Shell Helix Super 20W50 since day one. I've found that checking oil levels every other fill-up is a bit extreme. I only need to drop in a fresh half-litre every 2500 km's.
