Sato san's talk was on the rotary engine. He worked on many RX7s. He definitely recommends synthetic, especially Castrol - "the molecules are more slippery". Makes a difference in racing - "to win a race use Castrol 10W60" (I guess this is not off-the-shelf).
Personally, I use HKS RE Rotary synthetic oil 10W40. Looking out for Trust rotary synthetic oil. Hey, whoever bought all the stocks from Autobacs please let me have some.
I also top up with Mobil1 Super Syn 0W40 (about 1/2 litre per 3000km) since HKS RE oil is not available in 1 litre bottles. I am comfortable with all the products i mentioned in this post. Sometmes it's a psychological thing once you are already using a premium product.
I will not use ordinary dino oil. The only dino oil I might try is Mazda non-synthetic rotary oil, the one mentioned in many threads but no one seems to be able to get their hands on it. If I use dino, I'll change it every 3000km/3mths.

Don't remember the Mazda Singapore's RX-8 test drive to have this problem. Anyone with Mazda Singapore's RX-8 can confirm this?

U bet. I have tried to source for 10-60 but cant find even in most reputable car shops.
Using RS now. Not too bad, at least cheaper than HKS. I wouldnt mind tryin TRUST too. I trust them...D:D
I didnt switch back to HKS becoz RS gives the same idling if not slightly betta than HKS i feel. Oil Pressure at idle is about da same with RS slightly higher too. I like. keke...

A little update.
I've just did my 5k service.
On my fisrt 1k service I have changed to synthetic. And if you did read my earlier post (in this very thread) I have this thumpping/blurpping sound at idle.
Back to my 5k service, I've change back to mineral base oil (as we all know there're about 8 liters of oil in our engine, and normal oil change only swap out 1/2 of it) so it left with about 25% synthetic in the engine, the sound that I was describing has reduced!!
The thumping sound is still there but much lesser now, not sure if the oil is the main cause, but seems to be the closest things i can think of. Will monitor it further. So for those who's car is making the same sound as I doe, you might wanna try this.

Trust F2 RE is back in stock at Autobacs. I also noticed they also sell Mazda Engine Oil 10W-30 but not sure if it is applicable for our Rotary.
There is also the RMagic manual gear oil 75w-90 but only 3 cans left but damm expensive $220 each. Remember to use your AA card and get 5% discount.
Grab it b4 it runs out again. Cheers.

Hi guys,
I got the info on MazdaSpeed rotary oil and Trust RE oil from BlackAero.
Just went down to Autobacs and bought a 5L tin of TRUST F2 RE Rotary 100% Synthetic (Chinese script says 100% man-made) oil @S$138. Fair price, good size packaging! especially when RX8 needs 4+ litres. Will change at 12mths/12,000+km around 12 Sept 1st year anniversary!
BlackAero informed me that the MazdaSpeed Rotary oil is dino and @S$50/L! Way too ex for me. Especially to my mind dino oil has limited longevity so would need to change at 3mth/3000km (or after one race as intended by MazdaSpeed??).
There is another Mazda (not MazdaSpeed) dino oil a picture of which appeared in one of the threads (Australia??). That is different from the $50/L MS RE oil that BlackAero got. I think that was formulated for the Australia market since the RX7 days.
I'll let you know how the TRUST RE feels next month.

Hmmm... someone from autobacs seems to be observing the forum here, bringing all the oil that we need for our baby 8. 1st trust rotary oil now original mazda oil

There were 7 tins of 5L Trust RE oil left on the shelf yesterday. Not sure about backroom. In my haste I did not notice the Mazda 10W-30 oil. Damn should have checked it out.

Did oil change at Autobacs today (mileage 1300 km) with Trust F2 RE oil. I notice that my engine idle is much smoother especially after startup. There used to be a slight burbling sound when I previously started the engine and now it's gone.

Was down at AutoBacs yesterday, they have got the R-Magic EngineOil for the our Rotatry babies as well! Quite expensive as compare to the Trust though, couldn't remember the exact price but its in the $280 mark. Well for those whose got some extra $ and wanna pamper their baby might wanna have a go with the R-Magic!

Pleased to report on the TRUST F2 RE rotary syn oil (15W50) as promised.
The engine sounds smoother and more muffled compared to HKS RE oil (10W40) which sounded more sporty. I attribute this to the difference in viscosity. As usual feels very fleet footed whenever oil changed and rev'd to 9500 rpm freely. Maybe attaining 9000 rpm is a tad easier.
Another report : MazdaSpeed air fliter. Definitely worthit. Easier breathing is immediately apparent, resulting in smoother and faster progress from standstill and clearly smoother and easier gear changing. Yes positive effect on gear change due to no hesitation.

errrrr.....newbie so quite unsure and sounds corny. do you guys change your own engine oil or let autobacs do it, also since it is under warranty is it allowed or must you go back to the dealer workshop.

Mine's JDM from PI, GR. I let them do all the work at trusty FMGR (and pay lah). Never change your own oil unless you are a pro with proper, environmentally friendly way to dispose of used oil.
