Got my call from MM liao. Fixed appointment next Monday morning coz I'm out of town this week. Heard it's a 2-2.5 hr job to install a heat shield. Hopefully it will prevent my stuff from getting cooked in the center console after that.

Just called Hua Yang ( My PI ) and the agent told me they haven't heard of anything yet, but the agent also said if there was a recall, they would do it...
As mentioned, as JDM cars are deregistered in Japan, would the PIs be informed of the recall?
Also, who pays for the rectification costs? The PI or us?

If u do get a PI recall, all costs will be bore by them cos it is a 'manufacturing defect'.
Good luck!

alternatively, i believed that if there is an official list of cars affected published by Mazda (with serial number or any unique identifier), you could point it to the PI and it should satisfy the part where "the PI becoming aware of the defect". the PI would then have the obligation to rectify the safety-related defects.

OK... I spoke to the PI and this their reply... Not all cars are effected... the ones whose cars have remarks (1) only have the heating problem.. the cars with remarks (1) and (2) have possible joint problems too.
PIs should contact owners in about 1 months with their recall letters.
I am just wondering who the smuck that got vin number 100203. He's the only one during that production. A custom job ??

Well late reply
The first (1) is the heat shield problem, the symptom is well decribed in the US thread. If you have any funny idling or high rev/high speed problem, then is the sensor being melted and you should get it look at ASAP. Otherwise, wait for recall/when you are due for service.
The second is a more important problem since the lower arm has a defected forging and will crack under pressure. In the button near the bottom is the diagram and they are hunting the batch labelled K4... if you have that, you need have that replaced.
I suspect that all the ones that cracked are from this batch, but if you have this batch does not mean it will crack - so just drive slowly to the dealer :D
That is all.
I just went for a track day and pushing the car very hard chasing the Porsche 911s... so I have count my lucky star for surviving.

I called Garage R today (even though i did not buy my 8 from them) and they are aware of it and they said they are sending out letters to those that bought from them.
They will fix/service 8s bought from other PI, but must wait till they fix their customers one first. Garage R seems to be very on the ball..my PI still says he has no information abt it still.......

Normally they are helpful if the parts are readily available. If it is some rare parts, then only their own 'cars' got serviced. I think the heat shield shouldnt be too diff so those whose PI closed shop already have somewhere to go :D :D
