My 4AT RX8 manufactured in 05 but i just got it brand new last Nov.
I got 7.2km/L. I'm on a 225R17 45R. No mod but with grounding and Voltage stabilizer...
I'm using 20W50 mineral and hope to switch to 10w30 Royal purple sythetic. Using Shell 98..

Aiyah, the 580km per tank method must be down to the taxi/rocker combo. ie when going down hill, kick it into free gear plus the driver has to rock himself back & forth in his seat to add forward momentum. If got passenger, must also get them to rock back & forth in their seats to add to forward momentum. Old Irish trick.

My max has been 525km per tank before wiping the seat off my forehead and roll into a petrol station. All stock except for the F1 super-strakes mod.

I heard that first run -n (which i am going to do diligently, correct me if i am wrong) 1k change (have to be mineral), 5k change (also mineral) than after that you can choose to drag 10k on synthetic or every 5k on mineral... Is this theoretically true? what difference will it make if i go from synthetic to mineral and vice versa?

Cheers...

Sorry. I just over reacted. I just could not stand the thought of another fuel thread. Sorry. My bad. Oh, I hit 21mpg with my last tank. At work, don't know the conversion. I never got that much before and it was combined city/highway.

170kW 6 speed manual
Magnatech 15W40
93 unleaded
Standard 18inch (Bridgestone Potenza) : The tyres CAN screw-up your consumption.
5000km on the clock
520km per full tank
Driving style : mood dependent
Mileage is the same no matter how I drive (during break in period, and during normal driving period)

Mazda spec the gas tank as 61L, but you fill up before it's really empty. so 50+ Litres is common.

Mine is 6MT 05, Almost all stock. average 400Km only when red indicator lit.

Hi - Mine 2weeks old 6AT

Just passed 1500km

1st 1000k oil changed - Shell Mineral 20/50

Gas used: SPC 95 ( got 14% discount )

Air-cond level : 1st level with temp between 22-23C

Mod : MM 18" wheel, Goodyear Respec2 (225/45)

driving style : maintained @ 2500rpm for gear changed, crusing 6spd between 85-110km/h rpm @ 1800 -2000. ( 50% expressway & 50% short distance driving )

so far only using MT twice and RPM hit 7000k....bcos Buang tong kena chio by a Celica & a new civic... but shiok lah !

Average Mileage is 7.5km/litre or 50-53 litres for 400km.
( By the way my 03 CRV best is only 8km/L with 17" Wheel )

Now, i'm testing it see what different mileage achievable with filling up full-tank and filling up only half-tank driving. ( In the past experienced with my slivia & CRV got better Km with half tank about 20km more...strange ? )

cheers !

My question after all this reporting is: how much is the difference between AT and MT 8's in terms of fuel consumption? Also between 4AT vrs 6AT; 5MT vrs 6MT.

93 unleaded is same as the guys using in USA. 93 is a PON rating. equivalent to 98 RON.

see this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Africa indeed and right now, it's summer, In the highveld (high altitude region of South Africa) 95 RON is hard to come by, in the coastal areas it is everywhere.

Also, I haven't seen any difference in mileage between when using different grades, only the idle vibration of the gear lever decreases when using 95 RON.

Perhaps the reason I get 520km on a tank is because I drive until the fuel guage needle is below the last marking. That means, it is REALLY empty, most of the time.

I've tried using the 98 from SPC and it is adequate but somehow feels 'rough' after a while.

I think it comes down to personal choice, but for me I prefer Caltex Platinum.
