Gong Xi Fa Cai

I know it's a bit early for greetings, but I have a question for the Singaporeans.

I'm planning to stop over for a couple of days in Sing after Chinese new year. Can someone please tell me when the shops re-open after the festive period? I need to get some electronic goodies from, say, Simlin Square and Funan Mall.

Thanx and best wishes.

I guess all Singapore business will go on as usual?? Even in Hong Kong, most electronic shop will open at Day 3-4 (Chor Three - Four) after the Chinese New year. When I was young I did a lot of shopping with my red packet on Day 3, while mum and dad has a mar jong day with their friends.

I heard many shops close for a week, but maybe not the hi-tech shops after all.

So I guess Monday 14th should be good. Thanx for the response guys.
I'm wondering if there's anything I could get in Sing for my 8. I'm thinking HKS speed limit Defencer maybe. Would there be anyone selling them in Sing?

Hey Mugo.
I'm from Mauritius and got a JDM Type-S from a Singapore PI in Oct 2003.

Cheers.

Hi Hotpot...all of the stores should be open from Feb 12 onwards. If you plan on shopping on the 14th then everything will be open, certainly Sim Lim and Funan. If planning to buy anything electronic but don't know what you want, can get the best ideas and service at Funan. However, once you know what you want specifically (maybe you already do) then just go to Sim Lim and price compare shop. Won't get as good service at Sim Lim, but much better prices and can negotiate price where Funan shops don't generally do that. Make sure you check for international warranties too, but shouldn't be a problem. I buy everything I need from Sim Lim, but know exactly what I want before I go....cheers.

Thanx Genesis.
Is it worth shopping at Mustafa in Little India? I hear they open 24/24 7/7. Is that true?

Yes, true, but Mustafa is not as good with selection as Sim Lim IMO (note, for electronics anyway...they do have everything else under one roof). It depends on what you're looking for....anything in particular?

A new digital camera, which I more or less know what I want. Some computer stuff, like an IP network camera. And a couple more goodies.

Ok, in that case try Cathay Photo, ground floor in Penninsula Plaza, right beside Funan Mall. Huge selection, all brands and they will negotiate price to no end. Bot my digital cam from them simply because I could work out a discounted price and they will throw in extras for free like compact flash cards, camera case, etc. They have a good selection of the latest digital SLR's too like the Nikon D70 and Canon EOS 10-D with lenses. If computer stuff or MP3 players, go to Sim Lim.

I believe that all rx8s brought in by PIs are JDMs.. if you wanted the export model, then you'd go to MM.

If you can read a bit of Japanese....
http://www.hks-power.co.jp/products/...speed/sld.html

It simply cut the speed limiter in your PCM/ECU. It is so clever that it is a plug and play system. It is this small black box linked to a preseted wire harness and you simply plug it on. You can also replace with the original one with ease.

Good stuff or JDM imports.

Just found out about RX-8... JDM model control speed by CAN. So version III is the SLD to get

As Taka says, the JDM imported RX-8's are speed limited to 180 Kmh (although speedo reads 187 kmh). The HKS speed limit defencer overrides the speed limiter.
According to the website, one would need the SLD Type III-Z for the manual JDM RX-8 and the SLD Type III-Z2 for the auto. These don't come cheap though.

Anyone knows if HKS sells them in Singapore?

Warning abt buying digital cameras. Check the price of all the stores and the additional stuff that comes with it. Some shops try to cheat by quoting low price but cut edges by giving you smaller memory sticks etc. You might end up paying more if you do the upgrades on your own later. So do check out all the stuff that comes with the camera.
