hi Singapore & help
Hi all . Ok Going to be needing your help .Moved here from tokyo about a year ago & am back to the rotary rx-8. used to drive the 7 there & took a break & now nearly 4 years later , back to the rotary. & it feels GREAT. u guys should be proud of this machine. Runs & feels better than the 7 & kudos for mazda for not giving up on the rotary motif.Anyway might be needing your help on places to service etc etc when needed, not being an "official" car here. Tokyo was relatively simple, where Rotary servicing isint a problem.I should have done my homework earlier, but figured I could count on these pages. Will be firing more questions so be patient!!. happy motoring ..

Neon Thx for the reply & help..Actually question. Notice u have the Type S.Have you stuck with the original seats? I heard the duty on the leather seats was pretty high, if you went with the leather option!

Hi and welcome.
The problem for cars here is that anything factory fitted will be added on to the OMV of the car, upon which duties and taxes are computed. Thats why a lot of car dealers here will fit options such as stereo, leather, aircon, power windows, rims etc locally to avoid the taxes.
Yeah, like what Neon said, feel free to ask!
Cheers!

Mobil 98. Havent really gotten above 300 km per fill. But then again stil limited to low revs & city drives. yet to break it in completly.Need to get out into M'siya & keep changing the revs to properly break it in. Anyway was hoping for slightly better mileage @ higher revs or maybe need to switch fuels. ???

Hello p7&8.
If by "not an official car" u mean urs not by dealer/agent - don't worry! Cos NOBODY has an 'official' car in that sense, & local dealer/agent may not bring it in anyway.
BTW, maybe u know of juicy Jap sources seeing how u were there?

Don't know if you realize that fabric seats doesn't come with the hard-backing on the 2 front seats. I've paid $2.5k for the leather, basically, you'll get leather for all the seats, door panels (including the steering), hard-backing, electronic adj for driver side and option to put side air-bag.
If you'll to get fabric and do a local uphols, you'll be probably paying around 1k, and all you gonna get is leather over existing fabric. That's it.

If you mean factory fitted options, I think they can pretty much get whatever you want, but you will need to wait for the car, and also be prepared to pay more... Go to the reputable ones like Garage R or EZ imports.
If retrofitting locally, as what M-ster mentioned, the leather seats will not have the hard backing, and probably the ribbed leather as well.

Thx guys. Basically what I wanted initialy was leather package, but thought I'd get the original 2 toned fabric first(standard) & then upgrade. As usual, I did not check into the the original leather upgrading from Singapore. So as I understand it, it is possible to get the leather seats here as M'ster has done. Is it possible to get a few places whereI might get this done at ? Would Fab8 suggestion of Garage R / EX imports be the place to go ? & do the colours pretty much match the ones there.?

I think M-ster got the factory leather seats for the additional $2.5k.
Upgrading to leather locally - dunno if anyone has done that yet...of so, perhaps can share on quality and finish. Garage R or EZ Imports only sells the car, not the leather upholstering services. For that, I guess you should go to the well known players such as Jackspeed or Tomo. Some of the luxury car distributors use them to do the leather seats locally to save on OMV...

I'm not doing my leather locally. I'm getting the original factory fitted stuff.
I'm saying it's possible to upholst your seat locally, but you would not get factory fitted goodies.
Garage and EZ are PIs they don't do upholstery.
As for colour, you can damn do any colour to your liking since there's no limitation.
got it?
ps, ooops, Fab8 basically has answered your quiries while I was typing.

Hi p7&8
I didn't realize that you've already gotten your car. Otherwise I'd have just recommend you the upholster shops to go (pretty much what Fab8 has mentioned) and no need of explaining about the ordering options with PIs.
So, you planning to do your upholstery soon?

Oh Yes.. been just over a month now, & i must admit ,lots of confusions, really not being able to go to a "Dealer" & discuss & choose what i wanted. My old 7 dealer pretty much gave me the lowdown & recommended I go for the fabric & later possible to upgrade. Anyway yes very much have it & have the standard 2 toned fabric-which isint bad- & didnt want to upgrade to leather unless I saw it first hand, which I also did ,on my last tokyo visit. So now stuck.. which is why i was askin where I might get that done here .. if u do know any upholster shops, then would be great.

I don't think you'll be in a hurry to re-upholst your seats now right? I would suggest for you to go to one of those RX-8 gathering here, as the guys will be able to explain to you face to face and you'll be able to get a clearer idea of how things work around here.
