Hole behind rear license plate

I changed my rear license plate from the squarish to longish one, but there is a big gaping hole which my new license plate cannot cover. Is this normal on all RX-8s or is it just that the JDMs use square ones so the hole is there? I remember MM ones have long license plate and don't remember that hole there.

I've searched the forum and there was a thread which says the hole is for the license plate lights, but my license plate light is already in place and I still have this huge hole to cover. Am I missing a piece?

Its just a couple of screw holes for securing license plate frame or whatever it is you want.

For JDm model, there is a big hole behind, which explains why ur car number plates comes in 2 lines.

For mm model, there are no holes. So longish, squarish, 1 line, 2 line, all no problem.

Suggest u get a big piece of black acrylic, cover up the whole hole, and ad on ur number plate. This way u may be able to get 1 liner number plate without seeing the hole.

btw, JDM models only has 1 license plate light and holder. MM has 2.

It is for weight savings... less plastic, 1 less licence plate light, less wiring... !

Hmm... reminds me of the body parts story where every part thinks he's the impt one, the eyes, the ears, the brain.... until the ******* went on strike and didn't want to pass motion and the whole body went sick. In the end they voted the ******* the most important.

Good suggestion. Maybe can put reverse camera at the acrylic part. Can do at MG? :D
