There are 3 ways you can play your iPod to your stereo.
1. FM transmitter that you are using. Cheap, but not good quality.
2. Pre-amp Aux-in. Cheap if you already have an existing amp/speaker setup and best quality.
3. Audio Link or any iPod connection device. Moderate cost and connects directly to your head unit.

dont think yr head unit has an aux input but MM can do it for u at around $100 ( if i remember correctly ).
What I did was to use an audiolink and combine it Harman Kardon. Audio link itself will give u good sound quality . Harman kardon will provide good interface for sound selection

Well, your audiolink plugs into your head unit, right? Therefore there is an "aux input" in your factory head unit, which is actually the external CD-changer input.
BTW, MM does not do the aux mod for RX-8s. Besides, his 8 is PI.

Check out the "aux unit" below ( not too sure if it is applicable to the 8 ):

Ben bro,
see below attached a step by step guide for best result:-
step 1 - run an anti static wire thru your exhaust (must be RE Super Dolphin) to your engine compartment area
step 2 - connect it to your i-pod and bracket it to the hottest part of your engine
step 3 - turn on your head unit and tune your radio to Class 95 or UFM 100.3
step 4 - wait till the auto search function locate the signal
step 5 - if you did follow thru step 1 to step 4, you will need to get ready to buy a new i-pod and a new set of exhaust system.....
Do not do this by yourself as this require a pro to hook up for you.
Call me if problem persist and we can go party again. BUt, please include my my bro.
ha ha ha.....Just kidding! Make sure you dont try it without me around hoh!

I picked up the Syflex Aux Mod basic too and it's been working great. Quaility is awesome and hook up is simple. You'll definitly need the Ground Loop Isolator though, it is essential, not just on RX 8's, but any car. Of course everything is controlled through the Ipod, expect for the volume, I didn't think this was a big deal, I use an Itouch which is pretty smooth in the first place.
Also I have a 2004 RX 8 with firmware 9.53 and as far as I can see this is the only ipod adapter that will work with both new and old firmware verisons.

I did mine at JDM, u can try to look for Daniel, so far not much problem, but take note normally they will drill holes for the ipod connector. and its consider AUX type as my HU dont have CD, so the AUX = CD button on the dash
(ps: I was given a choice of ash tray or cup holder, I took the ash tray option as I was using nano, which can fit in and still close the cover, as the ash tray compartment not much things to keep)
cheers!!!
