The Jurong Incident
#51
Pls note RX8Club:
Do not jump to conclusions or incite anymore confusion amongst the car community as it is already is after this incident. everyone is spouting false info and blah blah blah on a continual basis and I would appreciate if you guys DO not know what exactly happened, then please do not speculate. Either give your condolences towards the berieved family or just enquire OFFLINE.
Don't immediately blacklist Shawn for being "a spoilt rich brat who's parents could afford a so-called performance car for their only son". From my standpoint, he wasn't such a person. And for someone to be on his way to England for a law discipline, says quite alot of about his character and values. Know him personally to rightfully criticize, if not zip it.
His gf was sent home that night. Period.
There is no video recorded, and if there was, it should have been destroyed by now. Common sense.
Lastly, all of us were once young before. We have had our fair share of being spoilt by our parents, grandparents, pamperness, etc. It takes one to know one. Excerpts from some of the postings here have plainly just shown that some apparently have tinges of sourness here and there. If you have SO much to say, go in front of his parents and say exactly the same thing won't you guys? If you have been to the wake, you'd know why I'm saying this.
Whether guilty or not of racing, or just a plain accident, or luck, Shawn's left the building already. Let him go in peace.
Rgds,
Jon Sham aka jOndog

if i have, in any way, offended anyone or the deceased, i sincerely apologise.
of course, it was just a general discussion and not aimed at any specific person.
just hope that this kind of accident can be minimised. if not, will have high insurance premiums for performance car buyers.
cheers

lawreo: thanks and noted. was a bit touchy because there have been a mass group of idiots out there constantly speculating without knowing the facts. similiarly to that previous SE death in the new mx5 sometime back.
whether intentional or not, that is why accidents are termed 'accidents'. sometimes unavoidable, sometimes unintentional.
rgds.

I do agree that we should not speculate any further, or jump to conclusions regarding his character.
I apologize for that as well, since I did imply that he was an immature driver.
As drivers, we should always consider the consequences of our actions, not only those affecting ourselves but other road users as well. Sometimes just slowing down, swallowing your pride and giving way.. may just save a life or two.. Killing yourself is one thing, but causing the death of another? I'd rather die on the spot.
I guess, like what Flyer has mentioned. We should learn from this experience, instead of just shrugging it off and saying 'its an accident, and nobody wanted it'.
Drivers who drive like their dads/granddads/great granddads own the road. Now. They're asking for it.
This is a general statement, and my personal opinion. Hope I don't get flamed for it.

in general......
its weird that everyone around me is always talking about driving safely and slowly and blah blah blah....end up i see them on the streets from time to time driving almost the same way as i do.....contradicting actions? i don't know....one thing i know for sure is that there are times to let go and there are times for restraint.
ppl who love cars will have the tendancy or urge from time to time. i don't bullshit abt not wanting to 'lut' everytime i'm on the streets, everyone knows that. forumners always whine about this car that car do this and that on the roads; it becomes laughable after awhile. i have NOT come across anyone who does not have the urge if they're insisting they're not INTO cars and own one. thats a total lie.
Singapore's car scene and community is a joke compared to overseas. everyone's always talking about 'driving safe' blah blah. you know what? i really can't give two hoots about it. majority of these so-called 'safe' drivers most of the time just post and post in forums (havens for these angelic local Singaporeans), never moving an inch in real life.
s.o.bs.
dolly: don't worry girl...i'm not flaming you...i understand where you're coming from so i accept your comments fullheartedly.

thats true
there are always times when you want to drive faster especially when you are driving such a shiok car like the 8 or WRX.
i think, the bottomline is: if you want to go fast, know your limits...most accidents happen when the driver lost control of their vehicle because they could not handle the speed. learn to control the car at higher speeds incrementally. do try to fly before you know how to walk.....i am still walking , hehe

U sounded damn scary till I scrolled down.
but eh. driving slowly and safely are 2 different things. You can be scooting along happily on the left most lane, until some jack *** comes along and bulldozes into u.
That's life eh.
Whatever it is, the point I'm trying to put across is. We always have a proactive role to play when it comes to avoiding accidents.
My 1st accident. why. because stupid me didn't check my tyres. They were running bald. Slammed on brakes but sadly couldn't even stop in time when I was travelling at 60km/h, and the car in front of me was at least 5 car lengths away!
2nd accident. Kena banged by taxi driver as he tried to squeeze past me on a one lane road. Lesson learnt. Must open eyes wide and be more alert and learn not to make assumptions when I'm driving. I didn't even notice the bugger coming up beside me. Thought he was behind me all the while.
Thats just how I see things.
Just thought I'd share my thoughts on that..

ANYWAEZ.......accidents will be accidents......and whether you believe it or not....they will happen from time to time....you drive safely and cautiously also kenna....you don't drive safely and cautiously ALSO kenna......
so bottomline is...just drive the way you normally drive and see how luck shines on your ride......=)
see my car almost everything must tape up liaoz....front kenna kenna dead cat on ECP couldn't siam in time.....rear kenna kissed by own team member waiting to mount a hump at Sentosa that drift event day.....side kenna by lorry trying to squeeze me on the left....haiz....
bottomline is, i still drive the same way i have been driving since my class3. call it what you all want, but thats just me.
finito.

jondog: Going to england to study law is not a indicator of character, intergrity or high moral fibre whatever. There are good lawyers and bad lawyers. And there is one damn GOOD lawyer who ran away with 6 mil of clients money. Profession, education or financial status are not yardsticks or determinants.
Of course most of us here likes some speed one way or another. Its a matter of knowing ones limits and not putting oneself's or other lives in danger that separates the hero from the zero. There are people who carry guns and love shooting but not every gun totter is a killer.
And fully agreed SG car scene is a joke compared to overseas.
And last word (thought it does not sound really good) If you cannot even avoid dead cats, can you avoid pedestrians? Anti social behavoir is not something great to boast about.

emperor: bo bianz lei....either i had to go over the dead cat, or it'll be kissing a hyundai SUV or a comfort taxi on either side of the highway that night.....dun forget ecp is 3 lanes...
as friends, i think that we would know his character much better than the everyday person. but nuff said, gotta move on.
lastly, i aint anti social. most would think so because they don't converse with me on a regular basis. there's a saying, "Don't judge a book by its covers". sometimes being able to back what you preach with actions doesn't mean the person is anti or arrogant. it jus seperates who's got the *****, and who doesn't.
my take.

jondog: i hvta agree with dolly on tis. i think she's rite in proactive driving. though u say leave it to luck cuz careful also kenna so drive normally. but even normal driving can be defensive driving.
err...coincedentally, i also hvta agree with emperor. i guess there is always exceptions but there is a reason why insurance for ppl who drive sports car, young in age, outdoors are more expensives. we are not saying everyone is lidat but 1 plus 1 equals 2 and if u add up the conditions, the probabilities add up. tis is not to say ur fren is one of them but speaking in general terms.
i also nvr met or spoken to u before but these are just my humble opinions. no offense intended.
