Keyless Entry System for 2006 RX8

My 5 MT has just arrived at PI's showroom

But found that there is no "keyless entry system with answer back function & trunk opener"

Although it has been printed on the RX8 catalogue as a standard feature for all models including the 5 MT.

The key is not folderable type. It is like those very old fashion ones with very long metal-key; kind of not match the image of 8 sport car

Does any bro / sis here encountered such issue for your 2006 delivery?

Or it is an option rather than a standard feature as printed on the catalogue?

I think the keyless entry is standard for most 2005 models. So 2006 should come with it.

My PI 4AT is a june 2005 and it comes with a retractable key.

Yeah, I really could not understand.........

Even my 5 years old car has a foldable key (rectangular-flat-metal), alarm and trunk open buttons, all built into one-piece nice oval-shape.

Would appreciate any new owners who recently collected your 8 (2006 make 4 AT or 5 MT) feedback whether your car has this feature.

Many thanks.

Cheers.

maybe yours is the older production, since 5MT move slower than 4AT or 6speeds

keyless entry

Keyless entry is only for the type s or Mazda motor, PI dun have that. There 2 keys, one normal traditional spare key and a retractable key with the open, close button and a trunk button.

I read in a technology review that those keyless entry (those new RFID technology type, not the remote control ones that most of us have) are not secure because their encryption is not strong and will transmit the unlock codes when interrogated without the knowledge of the owner. A research team when around with their notebook and RFID interrogator and triggered a bunch of RFID keyless remotes to transmit their unlock codes then went around "hacking" into cars just to prove it could be done.

I read about the insecurity of the RFID too. The same thing happened to IR and RF remotes but they came up with a encoding system to code signals into the RF. IR can be hacked easily with a pocket PC and the software is free. How i know? I tried it before. Rf is decryptable - in a decades literally.

But dun forget the key is still needed to start the engine and its immobilised. The key itself is coded. Or else why do we need to pay so much for a replacement.

All this is still a deterent to thieves. Wounldn't they rather steal a easier car?

Emperor, guess maybe we read the same article. Anyway, RF remotes like the ones that most of us are using is still the most secure for now. At least the perps can't steal the unlock codes off our old fashioned non-RFID, keyless entry, key coded engine de-immobiliser system. Or so we think...

If you are referring to the retractable key that when you press the unlock button then my car door unlock then i can get into the car without inserting my key into the key hole of the door then mine comes with it.

Is this what you mean by Key less entry??

Thanks again Ivan.

Don't worry, I love my beautiful new 8. Just want to make sure that I would not short change by the PI.

Remember there was a thread you help to pick leaves from a sister's car? Extra value-added service from M-garage

Cheers.

Thanks for sharing.

I have the perception of "keyless entry system" (stated in RX8 catalogue) is something similar to most of the Nissan cars have now (even their lower range of cars) = sensor on door-handle + keyless (button) start.

Seems that it is no the case for our 8. I think the car catalogue misleads, may be it should be printed as "Remote Entry System" instead ??!!

Cheers.
