KNIGHT SPORTS coming to town!!

Dear all,

Renowned rotay specialist "KNIGHT SPORTS" is coming to town sometime mid April 2007.

They will be doing remapping.

Light tune = $750
- Speed cut
- Fan control to lower water temp

Basic tune = $1200
- Speed cut
- Fan control to lower water temp
- Ignition timing
- Smoothen pitch graph

Light tune is more for those looking at speedcut only.

Basic tune is more for the hardcore enthusiasts, who are looking to optimise the rx8 exhaust system and their car performance.

JDM cars (ie, PI cars) no problem at all. Just standby for remapping.

However for MM cars, the unfortunate news is you have to remove ur ECU (warranty void) and send to japan to re-draw a new map. Reason being MM cars are Euro models and are de-tuned to suit euro emission. Maps are different from JDM maps and different batches have different maps. However i shld think this shldn deter the hardcore fellas.

*Malaysians and overseas RX8 owners are welcomed to enquire as well.

Exact dates to be confirmed once things are finalised.

Pls PM me early to avoid disappointment. Thank you.

the difference is explained above, except for the speed cut. U will not achieve 250 ponies straight off from the remap......

Coupe7,

What do you mean by speed cut? So does a decrease in the water temp result in a cooler engine??? All these are achieved by remapping the ECU?

Answer on behalf of C7.
A1) JDM 8s are electronically limited to a speed ~187km/h, otherwise known as "speed cut". If you have not gone above 187km/h, you will not notice this.
A2) Water temp is a measurement of your coolant, thus a lower water temp means more efficient cooling for your engine.
A3) Yes.

Just a question, what if we were to take a JDM 6MT ECU and put it into a MM 6MT.

Will it work to bring out the full 250HP?

Am wondering...hmmmm

Anyone tried this before???

Tatoo@
in the first place, u cannot swap a JDM ecu with a MM ecu. The car will nvr start due to immobiliser issue between 2 cars..

Its the same theory with 4AT JDM models... u can only swap if both cars do not have the immobiliser system.

Am I right to say that once the ECU is changed or "modify", the warranty will be void?

Will it affect the FC since the engine is cooler?

Speedcut, flyer has answered on my behalf.

For fan control, wat it does is, the ecu will be set to kick in ur fan earlier.... resulting in lowered temperature. For eg, maybe factory setting is for fan to kick in at say, 95deg...... this tuning sets the fan to kick in at ard 85deg... thus lower temp = better cooling for engine, as echoed from flyer's thread.

All these achievable by tuning ecu.

ur warranty is with ur PI workshop. This shld not be an issue becos:
1. PI workshops do not have the equipment to update any latest maps from mazda, which MM does, ur remapped ECU data will stay put.
2. No one will noe ur ecu has been touched before unless u tell them.

As for FC wise, cooling of engine has nothing direct to do with FC so answer is no.

So this is one of the only way to make our rotary engine cooler. Better cooling means longer lifespan of the engine.

I don't mean to pick on your English, but "one of the only way" is a bit of a contradiction. But just to share some info... there are many ways to cool your engine. Just to list a few...

1) Bigger radiator
2) Bigger oil pan
3) Bigger/more oil cooler
4) Better coolant
5) ECU tuning
6) Battery relocation
7) Vented bonnet

Is vented bonnet LTA approved?
Can MG do battery relocation?

to answer for flyer:

1. vented bonnet is nvr illegal in the first place, or not that i know of
2. battery relocation - theres is a relocation kit available. If u wan customisation job to relocate it to boot, we generally do not recommend due to various reasons... anyway lets not go into dat now.

may i ask how battery relocation helps in better engine cooling? and by battery relocation, would it mean a kit like the one RE-Amemiya has?

If you wanna stay legal, you're not supposed to meddle with your ECU anyway.

Battery relocation creates space for the air to flow. Yes, RE has a battery relocation kit.

Relocation is good, but you still need a vent to disperse the hot air.....

ic.. that makes sense...
any idea how much RE's batt relocation kit is?
or are there other options?

logically, air comes in, air goes out...... but the bloody weather can flood you engine bay........ Unless you're hard working enuff to take the drain cover on and off....

Yo Ivan,

Are the tuning meant for 4AT as well?

What does the these items do to your car? More HP?

-Ignition timing
-Smoothen pitch graph

Cheers ....
