Legal exhaust for RX-8 in SG
Guys, just wondering how many people are interested to get a legal exhaust in SG? Basically, no distributor is going to bring in any exhaust to get legally certified if there isn't a sufficient number of sales to justify the certification cost. This is NOT a group buy, but just a show of hands to see how many are interested so maybe we can approach a distributor to consider bringing in any particular after market exhaust system for our 8s. Comments/thoughts?

this is a good thread. some views related to this issue. as i understand, as an example (i may be wrong on the figures but the "general idea" is there), a cat back system, typically costs $500 would probably cost $900 after the certification. wonder how these costs are factored into the "certification". is LTA charging so much for the certication, or it is expensive to do tests from (third party) accredited centres to provide the certications? not clear to me as a consumer.
another example, knew of this guy who brought in a set of TC kit for his IS200, went through the necessary admin to get it approved. so how does it work, subsequent buyer just need to quote similar setup? and need not "pay the premium" or "certification fees"?
anyone can help answer my questions, there may be something i am not aware. would appreciate someone to enlighten me. thanks in advance.
having said that, interest definitely there on a "certified exhaust".

I have been waiting for a LEGALISED Exhaust system for my 8 way before I got my car.... Even tough there are lots of exhaust system like HKS, R-Magic, FGK, MAZDASPEED........... available in the market; BUT all are not "Legal" or compliance by LTA..... So I hate to bite the bullet to have one..........
According to Garage R, they need to accumilate at least 15 to 20 orders in order to get it endorse by LTA and to share the cost.......... Looks like we have to start a posting to find out how many 8 owners are actualy keen to have the exhaust system upgraded......
I will be in the list.............

I am not too sure bout the procedure but I had a distributor asking me that if we can find about 10 people then he will legalise the exhaust but they must all be the same brand and make. Anyone interested please PM me then we can discuss.
The guy wanted us to take fujitsubo but i heard that if each muffler has its own box would be better. I was thinking of R-magic cause not too ex, the power gains are quite good(claiming 14.5ps), its not too loud so it wont rumble so much when the car is at idle and lastly there is the titanium tip but am not sure if will fit the taste of everyone.

Hi sharing what I know which may/may not be correct.
Not every brand of after mkt exhaust can be certified. The exhaust must be able to pass their national certification (for Japan, NOT the Jasma which is the most popular certification but the other one which I cannot remember the name). As LTA follows the European emmission standard, most european brands like Supersprint, Remus etc passed easily!
Now u have the Japan production cert, the local agent will have to send a car with the exhaust to LTA for test. Think the fees is abt $2000 upwards (not too sure if the exhaust has to be written off for test etc). Only 1 exhaust model for 1 type of car (so technically approved for SE3P may not be approved for FE32).
Once the exhaust is certified, each owner has to go down to LTA (or approved inspection center) for the exhaust to be photographed with the car and the cert kept in case of TP check. No exception, every car with the new after mkt exhaust has to have the photos taken.
For a start, u need to check which are the brand that is suitable for certification. Titanium exhaust tips, mufflers all out. No need to try. Outright rejection cos of noise level. The exhaust must not have a sound level higher than 3 db from stock exhaust etc is one condition. After u do the prelim selection, u will find u do not have much choice. Even after u select, it is up to 'fate' cos the Japan cert may not be approved by LTA sighhhhhhh for consideration.
Good luck!

1) FGK around $1300 from Yap,if with Cert. $1800? ,
2) HKS $1600-$1800 from GR, if with Cert. $2000 to $2400?, heard of testing since 2003!
3) Apexi from ST, heard of tesing since 2004 !, price unknown.
4) Supersprint price unknow, but even w/o Cert. may be better chance to get away from TP since most model of their exhaust had cert since year 2002.
5) AutoExe, Knightsport, Feed, RE, Rmagic, Odula ? i think not possible !
6) Mazdaspeed w/o cert. is the safer from TP, they may be not interested as the word Mazda/Speed is printed at the tip & look like OEM

Supersprint has an exhaust for the 8, but the distributor is not bringing it into Singapore because of the high certification cost unless there are enough people who are interested to buy it (same story everywhere else). That's the whole reason why I started this thread - to find out how many of us are really interested to get a legal exhaust for our 8s. Then maybe we can approach a distributor and convince them to bring in. So far, only Sandman369, Renesis8 and Naughty Boy have indicated their interest. How about the rest of you guys?

Unless everyone is happy with this exhaust, no point asking for the price.

I love them very very very much.
They are not noisy during idling and cruising but on the track when it is in full blast. It is music to my ear.
check out my site too www.step-hen.com/myrx8.htm
Glad that you guys are doing groupbuy on this wonderful exhaust. No US or Australian understand how good is their finishes are...

Although it is a wet day and actually slow on the track but you can hear the exhaust.
Video taken from a Sony DSC P10 so the audio is mono. Damn

I agree with taka cos Fujitsubo only specialized and concentrated in building quality Exhaust and unlike the rest. When i'm in Aus, everybody is taking about Hymee exhaust but i still prefer JDM product. Not to say Hymee not good though.
Mine is coming next month. Yeah yeah!!!!!!:p
