Honda and Mazda recall...any truth?

Just saw this in mycarforum.com....can anyone check whether there is any truth?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just 1 hour ago, news stated that Honda and Mazda cars are being recalled for retrofitting for defects. Here is the report::

TOKYO - Japanese automakers Honda and Mazda said on Thursday they will recall for free repairs a total of 861,000 cars they have sold at home and abroad.

Honda Motor Co Ltd notified the transport ministry it will recall 847,000 units of six models -- the Civic, Ferio, Hybrid, Fit, Stepwagon and Stream -- which were built between August 2000 and December 2001, a company spokesman said.

Honda will fix a fault in the switch controlling the front headlights at a total cost of 5.77 billion yen (S$90 million), she said.

The global total includes 190,424 units sold in Japan, which will cost 1.23 billion yen to recall and fix, she added.

Separately Mazda Motor Corp said it will recall 6,559 RX-8 cars sold in Japan because of two defects.

The company had identified a problem with the car's manual transmission system that can make a heat shield plate crack or come loose, and a defective shock absorber in the front wheels that can make components come loose while driving, a Mazda spokesman said.

The recall will also affect roughly another 7,500 of the exported cars, bringing the worldwide total to about 14,000 units, he said.

The recall covers vehicles made between February and August last year and this March. The spokesman could not say how much the recall would cost.

Meanwhile Honda America will recall 240 Civic GX cars made in the United States between March 2001 and October 2002 to fix a problem with the power steering that might stop the steering wheel turning, according to documents submitted to the ministry.

Accroding to the mymazda website for my car, there are two recalls dated 3/5/2004. One for the manual transmission damper and one for the passenger airbag. The one for th passenger airbag affects more than just the RX-8.

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ocs/index.html

has more info on it also. I picked mine up Sunday the 22nd and the dealer had already fixed both items.

Neon...yeah u can check it from the engine bay.

Well just have a general discussion only, dunno life threatening or not. From the diagram...not too worry about the heat shield thing. But the ball joint on the control arm is a bit worrying.

Anyway, have been having squeaking sound from the front suspension when I go over humps. Had the same problem in my Passat last time. They change the entire control arm.

Will be going to my PI's workshop tomorrow to check it out. So can chit chat with them about the recall.

japan recall

Guys, I just got off the fon with the guy at maada in tokyo, & it seems mazda will be issuing a RECALL on a few thousand RX 8's in japan. I suspect this might be due to the same problem I heard when I was last there with the oil pan... Anyway may be worth checking with your respective dealers.. shall pass on more info as I get it

Ok, there are two recalls being made

(1) heat shield plate
(2) ball joint socket of the lower arm

The affected cars are:

Chassis no. SE3P-100063 ~ SE3P-100206
Prodn date: Feb.14, 2003 ~ Mar.18, 2003

Most of these cars need to replace both items

Chassis no. SE3P-100207 ~ SE3P-111460
Prodn date: Mar.19, 2003 ~ Aug.29, 2003

replacement of heat shield plate only.

So I'm affected for the heat shield only. My PI is getting the parts in. Hopefully not too long.

Have check against my own chassis number n it seemed that I am not affected by either recall as my engine number is 1160xx. Anyway, think the local PIs should be handling this without any problems as this is not the first recall for any one of them. My previous car, a HONDA STREAM, also underwent a recall exercise late last year and I had the part looked into and replaced FOC by January this year. All this was arranged by the PI without me even notifying them. They sent me a letter to inform me that I am required to bring the car back and an appt was made and the job was over in 3 hrs.
