Mazda Singapore bringing in the 8
#101
Guys,
Heard that the 231ps version that MM is bringing in is the same as the 250ps JDM. According to my buddy, the difference is due to different testing methods... How true is that??
Anyway, Garage R is bringing in quite a number of accessories already for the RX 8, quite cheap too !!

Seat warmers!!
Came back from MM after beoing the car for a very long time.
Two things:
1. The cars have something most cars in singapore don't - SEAT WARMERS!
2. Another thing that is pretty useless in singapore - headlight washers.
I would've given up both plus cash in exchange for the Bose, but a 3 year warranty is important to me.
Can't wait to get mine!

The seat warmers r the items that really baffles me. Who needs them in our weather? The interior of the car is already warm enough after a short drive even in the evenings! Can't wait to see if C&C will bring in the new SLK with the Airscarf as well? But one thing I did notice is that the MM cars come with twin oil coolers. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Puddle lights
Another thing: the wing mirrors also have the light at the bottom which shines on the ground when the door is open. Not noticible in the day unless you're looking for them or you happen to catch the reflection off the body.

Yeap, the MM's 8 got the headlight auto-leveling. Just saw the car 1 red with black interior and the other Tit with black/brown interior.
As to date what I've gather, the MM's 8 have got:
1 2 oil coolers
2 Lip spoiler
3 Sun Roof
4 auto headlight
5 Headlight washer
6 Heated seat (Ha!)
What MM's 8 don't have that PI's do, (6sp)
1 Bose sound system.

just to clarify to everyone out there .... the version that MM is bringing is 228bhp is actually the same as the 250ps JDM. The one diff is that Europe is having a very strict regulation when is comes to engine power output specification or else the Japanese is rather liberal on this bit .The Aussi and US fall somewhere in between that's why they are having it on the papers 238bhp. Doak the mazda Australia spokesman says teh drop in power makes no diff to the company's official performance claims for the RX-8. Hope it clears up the air.... as for 0-100km/h in 7.1 sec as MM has it on the paper it all depends how you launch the RX8 . To optimise on the performance from the RX8 it should be in the 7-8k RPM before dropping the clutch. Hope it clarifies.

Hi Current9,
Don't think it is strict engine power output. Rather is the strict emission control in US and Europe. In Europe, they are complying to Euro 4 emission control, thus need to de-tune the car. In Japan and Singapore, we are only need to comply to Euro 2 standards.

Hi UG_8,
Just wondering if US and UK have a more strict emmision, then why are exhuast mod legal in their countries. Even in Japan, exhaust mod are not as strict compare to SG. I hate this LTA restriction.

Guys,
Here are the facts about the engine power rating :
JDM 6 MT : 250 PS = 247 hp (SAE) = 240 hp (DIN)
It's a myth to say Japanese rating is more generous. BTW PS is German. Quoted with qualification is fair enough.
US version needed to be detumed to 238 hp (SAE) to meet California emission standard. UK/Euro version needed to detune to 228 hp (not sure SAE or DIN) to meet 2005's Euro 4 emission standard.
Detuning is done in the ECU mapping. Engine may be exactly the same but ECU program makes all the difference. As I mentioned before, tuning state is a compromise between power, torque, fuel economy, emission and engine longevity.
Does 250 PS and 228 hp make a difference? Probably not because of the many dymamic factors such as launch condition, driver skill, etc, especially when 250 PS comes in at 8500rpm.
The difference though is in the satisfaction of knowing. I mean you will not be as satisfied with 250 hp piston engine as a rotory. Not as satisfied with 228 hp than 250 PS/247 hp. No?

Well BlackAero, this is Singapore. A lot of things does not make sense one :D
Actually I am not too peeve with the HP. For my wish list, I would like the Torque to be increased. I guess the only way is to go FI way. But talking about that, that is also a no no in the eyes of LTA.
Anyway, FI will also means more chances of blowing engines...
Just called Garage R and the HKS intake cost 1000 plus...so anyone change this already?

For all those who bought their rx8s from Mazda SG, what sort of sound system is provided if the bose system isn't installed?
BTW, does anyone know what the difference is with the different 3rd gear ratios for the US/EURO vs JDM MT cars?

hi melo,
i suppose the the sys on MM's units r the 4-pt speakers found in the basic 8.
the ratio on euro units r slightly closer, hence, the rev wt drop tat much durin the up-shift.but will hv to stay @ higher rev to sustain a certain speed s cmpare to a more 'open' 1
