Need Help in getting wheels for my 8

hi people out there, just booked a 8, a basic auto infact as my gal dont like the hassle of changing gears. didnt book the type E as i plan to put on some bodykits and didnt like the original 18" wheels.now i am thinking of changing the 16" to 18", but i'm not sure of the size.wat i mean is would 18" be ok for the car and its suppose to be 18" X ? and wat about the offset?

wanted the type E actually but we are thinking of using the cash difference between the 2 models to dress up the car, then we didnt like the colour as much, thirdly didnt like the original 18" wheels too. another question is would the type E be much better than the basic.

thks for answering my questions.

Hi rclios.

From what I know, 18" will fit. Type E gets you leather seats & airbags behind (in a silver backing/casing). Not that good if u wanna put after market seats (e.g. buckets). Also not good if u going to change colour of car as u will be limited to matching (unless u choose black leather).

Whatever... Congrats, good luck & enjoy yourself!

Hi rclios

Welcom to the club....

18" would be a better choice, of coz consumption would definitely increase...type E comes with accessories compared to the the basic.....

btw when is your delivery?....

cheers.....:p :p :p

hmm...but i also know that the basic auto does not come with dsc and lsd, the suspension of the type E is also different from the basic, windscreen and mirrors of type E are water repellant, and more, which puts me in a dilema too.but anyway did'nt want to overload the installment every mth and thought if buy basic then more worth to upgrade bodykits, suspensions, bucket seats and more.no point paying for type E then want to change again.

mine 8 is not a special indent basis unit so if nothing goes wrong with th eloan and insurane should be before CNY....

pity bodykits not in yet else could really dress the car up be CNY.

Hiya,

Wheels are still stock standard...only change to HKS Hipermax II coilovers...but quite a harsh ride. Have not check whether damping is to the softest or not.

Me driving a black Type S.

Type E has a softer suspension setting, I think. But there is an option for Type E buyers to choose the Type S suspension.

UG, well done on the HKS! Any other mods coming soon? Have been resisting so far (or rather, wallet has been resisting...) :p

rclios, the Type S suspension is fine for city driving. Firm enough for excellent handling, yet supple enough to absorb the bump-thumps.

Hi Fab 8,

Well after changing to HKS kindof missing my Sports suspension. As mentioned, need to tune the damping to the softest to test. Now feeling every bump on the road, but on high speed cornering and cruising...wah damn stable.

So rclios...interested in the sports suspension. Hmm u strange leh, I thought I told you the stock 18" wheels are 18"x 8" at 50 mm offset.

Hiya,

After market alloys usually comes in offset 48...I guess the speedo is out for a bit. If you check the tyre section, guess a lot of the US guys are on different offset and some even put their rear wheel to be on 265 or 275, as compared to our puny 225.

If you are interested in the suspension just msg me lor...the set is still at the tyre shop....

rclios, UG is right abt the offset on the stock 18" rims.

Anyway, you can change to 18" without any problems. If you keep the overall diameter abt the same, your speedometer should be ok. Offset - not too agressive or you may have a harsher ride. Not too wide too or may end up with higher consumption, tramlining, and possibly rubbing on the arches.

Technical explanation of offset can be found here

By aggresive, I mean offset that will result in the wheels sitting much further out such that they are sitting flush with the arches or even protruding slightly.

For aftermarket alloys, I think as long as you are not too different from the stock 18" offset, you shld be alright.
