POLL: Sepang Trackday
Every single time I've been down to a meetup? The two questions that I always get asked are:
1) Why did you spray your car orange?
Ans: CNY coming soon mah![Lol](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/lol.gif)
2) When are you gonna arrange another trackday?
Ans: Er....um....okok I will soon!!!
So without further ado, I've got in touch with Sepang and got some dates from them for both the open and closed trackdays. I will lay out the exact costs and criteria for each session - so pls pick the date that you prefer most via this poll.
Provided we have the min number for a closed track day or if the open track day is the preferred choice - then we will go ahead and book our slot.
Sorry to sound like a hardass but based on past experience - these rules need to be followed or it will be a no go.
1) For closed trackdays - I will set a collection date for the money.
If by that date I dont get full payment? Then I will cancel the track day. Sorry but I will not chase folks for money around again - pls make your own arrangements within yourselves or simply give me a call.
2) For open trackdays - I will arrange the convoy to and from but thats it. You will make payment on the spot once we get to Sepang yourself.
3) There will not be a mechanic trackside - so make the time to service your car prior to the trackday. Check your brakes, tire tread wear, coolant, etc.
I would suggest booking time with a garage that actually knows their **** and who will be able to assess if your ride is as ready as it can be for a track day. Not kissing *** at all - but MG is by far one of the most knowledgeble for this. I'd strongly suggest that you call Darren or Ivan beforehand to book an appointment before going down.
I myself failed to do this the last time and ended up with a console full of xmas tree lights and no ABS/DSC for my return trip to Singapore.
4) Everyone must have comms for the trip. By comms I mean walky talkies. This aint negotiable and is there to make sure that everyone is safe and not left behind in the convoy. Dont be a cheapskate - go buy a good Motorola one that will cost 50 to 60 bucks and you can use it during rounding sessions too.
5) Once payment is made on the collection date or prior to that? There will not be a refund even if you do not attend the meet for whatever reason - we have to be fair to the others who are going along who have commited their time and money as well. By all means find a replacement.
6) Min of 25 cars for closed track days. Limit set by me. Feel free to ask your friends, friend of friends, friend of friend of friend of friends, etc. RX8 club members get priority of course.
Ok so the costs for the different trackdays are as follows:
Open Track Day
RM 200 per car (no transponder)
Closed Track Day
RM 9000 per half day session (no transponder)
RM 2000 per half day session (optional, with transponders)
Based on 30 cars, that would make it RM 300 / SGD $135 per car without transponders.
Based on 30 cars, that would make it RM 367 / SGD $165 per car with transponders
Just to clarify - transponders are in car devices that allow for accurate lap times being recorded. I'd highly suggest that we go for this option as it is a lot more fun.
Note that the cost may go up or down dependant on the number of cars going.

Newbie like me with a brand new un-modded car (no temp guages, stock and soft suspension) can go?
Been to track before, but that was
1) 10 years ago
2) on bikes
3) at PG
if i go will a kayu driver like me be a road hazard to the experienced drivers?
another friend, also track virgin, also asking if can go (not driving an 8 - driving TT)
or will it be better if i go to PG on my own a few times to familiarize myself with the car first, before joining?

u all dun lidat la. we all also newbies leh. went once only. learn together la. is a good opportunity to understand ur car better in a safer environment. btw i was just updated that sepang returf some parts of the run off areas with astro turf. 300rm per sq ft is the cost should u spin out at those corners.

The last time I went was in a stock car with stock suspension and stock Potenza tires. Only mod I had was a Blitz intake - thats it.
Wont say that I did well or not but the key to it is that if it is a CLOSED track day? Then you will not be in the way of anyone as at most there will be 5 - 10 cars on the track at any one time.
Especially if it is a hot day? Then you or the car wont be able to realistically take more than 6 - 8 hot laps without your tires melting. It is also incredibly taxing on your concentration and you wont be able to do more than 6-8 laps anyway before getting tired. A lotta the time will be spent in the pits cooling down between laps and drinking lots of water.
As for track rules and such? The track marshalls will brief you on the official rules. I'll brief everyone on the 'gentleman' rules.
As for the astro turf thing that CoupeM mentioned? I'll check with Sepang - but I doubt they would put that anywhere near the track as it just does not make sense. Anywhere off track will normally be covered by gravel / tire walls to slow you down if you spin off so you dont hit the wall. It makes no sense that they would put astroturf there.
Not disagreeing with CoupeM but this might just be an urban myth. I'll find out and let you guys know.
Lastly to all the newbies - dont worry. Just take it slow when ur on the track for the first few laps and get to know your car. Anyone faster comes along? Let them through. Once you are comfortable? Then push your limits a little further. The last time I went with a stock car - I pushed the limits towards the end but never spun off even once. Not cos I'm skilled - but cos I knew my limits.
Alternatively, jump in one of the old birds car to let them show you how it is done. They wont say no to you of which I am sure.
