Pros & Cons

Hi, I'm interested in changing my ride, but unable to decide between RX8 or DC5. Any views to share, all are welcome.

DC5R

Pros
Consistent power thru-out the RPM powerband
Good FC

Cons
No sunroof
Racer boy tag
FWD

RX-8 (6 spd)

Pros
Looks simply breath-taking!
Sunroof!

Cons
High FC
Strict 4-seater
Sluggish low end??

Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
Tks

Looks factor oredi win hands down. U put rx8 and dc5 side by side, ask girls to pick, u see which one they choose.

as for ur cons for rx8
HIgh fc is correct. But u balance out with low road tax and low insurance (take note insurance is written as 4 door saloon)
Strict 4 seater - yes. Only 4. But then again, u seldom fetch pple when u r driving ur sports car, do u?
sluggish low end - oso true. once u go above 4-5k rpm..... that is wat we call spirited driving liao. sluggish low end - lup a super charger!!! :D

one impt factor is the "common" factor - DC5 is way too common, and its actually deemed "one class lower" than rx8... call me biase, but seriously, u put the 2 cars side by side, more often than not, pple will say DC5 higer class chow ah beng car (at least higer class than the cheebics).....

but then again, DC5 type R is fast and light.

u come rx8 club and compare, i tink our answers are all pretty swayed to our rx8. The same goes to DC5club... u go honda club, integra section, all will condemn rx8,saying the car cannot run lah, sure lose out to them lah, poser car lah, the claimed 250hp is fake lah.....

ultimately, ask urself wat factors u wan. Looks? FC? practicalbility? maintenance? speed? fun factor?

the main point here.....what are you looking for from your car?

as coupe7 states it, our answers will sway towards our rx8s

let me do a demo here fro u:

PRO

Looks - a f8cking babe magnet!!!
FUN - Rearwheal Drive!!!
Quiet during normal driving ( i think so)
Highrev - engine sings from 5,500 rpm till 9000rpm ( like a tiger under sheep skin)
4 door, 4 seater - hey mum look i've got a four door car!! ( :D )
Engine of the year award????!!!!!!
Very well balanced car
its only 1.3??!!!!( this will get u to category D for drag racing - 1.6 and below non vtec/mivec :p )
Roadtax? didn't even noticed that was there ( :D )
18" Wheels Maybe ???
Can u see my head from my sunroof?

Cons
again HIGH FC but i guess every nice car comes at a price
Engine bay gets really hot
Sluggish at low rpm ( no wonder why they have a close ratio 6 speed isn't it? :p )
Damn oem tires are no good!
Too technologically advance for modding (i.e electronically mods e.g ecu,rsm and such)

My ex-car DC5R, now RX8, F.C. depend on how hard u drive & DC5R might be slightly better, for pwr, as RX8 is 1410kg for MM full spec ver. & DC5R is 1190kg, RX8 pick up might be slightly slower but just change e clutch+flywheel of RX8(OEM~23kg) to sport type(~12kg), u r closer to DC5R(OEM flywheel~4.7kg, clutch assembly~8kg), pwr delivery part RX8 is so linear like driving big cc V6 or even better, DC5R u can only feel e pwr at iVTEC 6200rpm other wise just like a 2L car. Look wise is base on individual but a simple test is to ask a kid which car look better, RX8 or DC5R ?

Seating space, try not to ask 3 adults to get into DC5R rear seat due to head room, RX8 although only 2 seat but seating comfort definitely better.

Price? currently RX8~$131800, DC5R~$115000, but i suppose e insurance on DC5R will be higher than RX8, Rd tax difference per yr should be~$600.

My view is this (since you asked...hehe :p )....First take a look at yer money supply, if you purchase the rex then keep about $10k left over for mods (suspension, performance rims/tyres, struts/braces/sways). Then you'll have a machine that will astound you in cornering performance and will clearly blow away any DC5 in that respect. Even the stock rex is great, but the mods add a whole new dimension. If you just want to drive straight...get the DC5 and save a few bucks.

Gen... I figured you meant rex as rx-8, but the term "rex" is reserved for WRX so cannot associate "rex" with RX-8.

canjoy, like what a lot of the guys have been saying, what are you looking for in a car?
If you are looking for a powerful muscle car, buy a WRX/STI/EVO.
If you are looking for a awesome looking, superb handling, sweet sounding and powerful car, buy a RX-8. Maybe I'm just biased tho... :p Ha ha ha.

Seriously speaking, the RX-8 is not known for good FC, but the cheap road tax, cheaper insurance and fun factor more than makes up for that little bit of difference you pay in fuel. Anyway, the WRX/STI/EVO or even the DC5's FC is not THAT much better than the RX-8. I've witnessed SO many people turning their heads for a 2nd look or sneaking a shot of my RX-8 with their camera phones, it's becoming hilarious. Then imagine the looks you'll get when we convoy down the street in our 8s. :D

im not a car expert, but juz wanna share with ya my ideas..
i was also in ur shoe mths ago before i finally made up my mind & go for d rx8.

had tested d typeR & rx8,
yes tR haf better speed & faster, control & handling also feel perfect, cornering v.good too!
wat turn me off is the new model without d "eyebag" at the front & rear lights.
having so mnay boys buying d $80k model at kah motors put me off too.

fuel should not be a major problem when getting a sports car , i feel the more petrol i spend, the more happy i be, becos it shown tat i had more business & work!

in d end, i choose personality & image over tR. needless to say wat kind of image & personality the rx8 will give u, its all over d comments others gave.

Ermm... maybe you haven't REALLY tested the RX-8 :p
Anyway, according to Mazda's sales video, the RX-8 is still faster than the Integra Type R from a standing start due to "poor load shifts" because the DC5R is FWD. Any bros saw that video clip at MM when the RX-8 was launched?

The muscle cars is not my cup of tea, cos like what Emperor mentioned, they look like normal salons. For now I still prefer the sleek look of a coupe.
Went to test-drive the RX8 yesterday, the handling is great.
Would love witness your convoy one of these days, sure it'll be awesome.

Well, RX-8 could be faster than the Integra Type R. I'm not sure how much one can trust 'Mazda's sales video'... they did say the 8 was 250bhp

Well in the earlier days of when the 8 just came out, Best Motoring did a track run with the Intergra and 8 and couple of others. the 8 came in second...from the back.... beaten by the intergra(which was rated 220bhp)...

Someone help this frustrated newbie! I have tried placing the k&n drop in air filter into my 8 and I notice that the air intake box is extremely difficult to open up! I've never had this much trouble replacing air filters in ANY vehicle prior to my 8.

They should pop in and out without a fuss. What's going on here?

I've already ran a search, and this seems to be a common problem...

Hmmm.... why dont you try attending one of our night meet ups cause some of the technical-savvy members will be there but I cant gurantee that they can solve your problem. We will see what we can do.

To attend our meets you just need to PM and leave your contact details to coupe07, our PR manager and in no time you will be notified if we have any meets. Cheers and hope to see you soon.
