Rubber Advise...

Yup, both rubbers somewhat got to do with safety.... and they give such pleasure to the users. But I need some advises for the one that's used for the road...

Anyway, I have more or less set my mind on the AD07. Am on stock 18". I've read that couple of you guys have had 245/40/18 on the stock 18" rims... But some how, few of the tyres guys have been discouraging me doing so. Kept saying that the tyres might be too wide for the stock 18 x 8 rims.

So, is there much down side to putting 245 on the stock rims?

2nd question, about price. so far the best price i've got is $250 for 225 and $370 for 245. Anyone has came across or gotten theirs for lower?

Ta.

Me too! I thot: its important to talk about it and get the right protection esp nowadays (think China, Russia or Viet imports etc) but not sure which brand is that important... just do it.

And besides, not sure whether the petrol heads on tis site know what to do with it anyway. They are more interested in their 8's than thier wives or gfs!

If u are in the mood for something exotic, u can try Bridgestone RE01R.

If u are lucky, u may find the ultra difficult and rare Bridgestone S02.

Best bet at South East tyre.

Cheers

I've seen quite a few threads in the other sections where people have changed to 245/40 on stk rims without any problems. Shld be fine.

changed mine at SE tyre. Boss said that 245's were too big for the stock rims. you will need 8.5in rims. anyway since it cost so much more also, i just stuck with 225's anyway AD07 225's are wider than RE040. so they fill the stock wheel pretty well.

HA, guess as much the title will get some attention.... tat's why in my intro, i stated which rubber am I actually gonna need advise on...

Fab8, that's wat I thought too.... but so far, seems negative with the advises from our local heros to go with 245 on stock... understand that you got the Eagle F1 recently, did you stayed with 225?

Mk, thanks... you got yours for $250 too rite? (If my memory didn't fail me...)

Thanks EBS, I must get myself some AD07s... been wanting to try that for the longest time... will consider your suggestions in future.

Cus, pmed you back.

Cheers Guys!

I wanted 245/40 but tyre shop (Poh Heng) could only get 235/40 so I went with that size. No issues after running for almost 7k on this size. Slightly lower gearing but not noticeable. Pretty happy with the Eagle F1s - damn impressive in the wet and pretty quiet when cornering hard - important for taking corners fast without screeching.

There will be some tradeoffs for going for a wider set - better grip, but handling will not be as progressive. But you will definitely get better grip with the AD07s anyway compared to the stock 040. Probably still best to stick to stock size for best balance.

I think so. But after having dealt with both Poh Heng and South East, I think SOuth East is more experienced and professional in their dealings. But may be more expensive though.

go to Poh heng only if you dont mind getting scratches on your rims. they can be quite rough. but cheap la. I paid 250 at SE, rather have some TLC.

seriously, u shld consider the TOYO PROXES T1R. Better than eagle f1, IMHO.

AD07s are good, but take note that road noise is louder and wet grip is not impressive. More of a track tyre than street tyre. But having said that, i'm on AD07s myself. However, TOYO will be my next change.

For stock 18 x 8J, 235 is the maximum to go. 245 is for 8.5J. oin for 8.5 on stock rims is a bit overkill.

Price wise, poh heng shld be by far the cheapest ard. But for me, proximity wise, i wld go for shops ard my own area....

S02 is probably the best Bridgestone I tried before, but do be careful if you manage to find the S02, if I'm not wrong the stock would be at least 2-3years old, and the rubber would have deteriorated by now. You can check the year of manufacture on the side wall of the tyre. It should read something like 1503, which means the 15th week of year 2003.

Am running on Goodyear F1 and they are awesome!! Superb in the wet and very good in dry weather as well.

yo bro,

am very aware of the noise level the ado7 is gonna be giving me... actually one of my other choice was the rt615... but it aint cheap...

the proxes t1s was what i wanted couple of years back when i was driving the miata... the us miata guys have only good things to say about them. but it was hard to find then, thus end up with os3.

the t1r is relitifly new, apparently very good feedback too...but i have not look out for them since, any idea what's the price like?

ya, it is always a dilemma when comes to tyres.... you want the grip but not the noise, you want the hardcord but without sacrificing the comfort....

Finally, got the AD07 fixed up. I went with 225. Got it just under $250.

First thoughts:
Not so much that the AD07 is quiet (I guess most new tyres will be even for performance tyres) but was only after the change that i realize how noisy the stock tyres were.... Damn... the car feels so smooth now...

Is the AD07 alot lighter than the stock tyres? Cos I feel that the steering is so much lighter and quicker now...

And it brakes better too...

Thanks guys...

Great stuff - let us know how the tyres feel after scrubbing in (and also the noise). BTW, the lighter feeling could be due to the initial layer on the tyres - feeling will change after scrubbing in.
