thx.
Generally speaking, for best fuel efficiency, you should shift before the 2nd port opens. Anytime before 3,500rpm would be a good guideline. However, the key to getting a better FC is to drive smoothly by accelerating smoothly and not adding in more fuel than is necessary. You will burn less fuel if you smoothly ease the accelerator compared to if you floor the accelerator even if you change gear at 3,500rpm in both instances.

my gosh, all these figures are alien to me. best i got was 6.5km/l and typically i'm getting 6km/l.

- 75% city 25% highway. 95Ron. 6MT
- spirited driving at least once every 2 days.

Can someone tell me it's normal?

You pump RON 95 for your 8? The user manual say it would be better if you pump higher RON.

Regarding those saying that RON95 and RON98 the same, think again. What you pay is what you get.

But for me, V power is a no-no. Seem like nobody pumps it nowadays and so the petrol stays longer underground. Seem like stale already.

Hey bro, u r not alone here. I have been seeing the same figures like those you posted and my style of drive is mild (80%) and not-so-mild (20%). Tried all brands of petrol since I got the car and the figures are quite similar.

This shld not be difficult? I think the car has a mazdaspeed kit together wif the
wing on...rims shld be racing hart...side mirrors i think are aero mirrors...

U can get the same setup done here locally easily...but the price is not cheap
shld u opt for genuine items...though i think replicas are quite easy to source n
won't cost u a bomb...

Oh...the car has been lower as well...so u might want to consider a change of
coilovers or minimum, a change of springs...

Actually, I pump V power lah...tried b4 in my previous car...the difference is quite
significant...my car felt sluggish on 95 or 98...n the fuel comsumption is slightly
better on V power...

ok good to hear that.

i remembered I was told by salesman that according to his customers, it was about 8km/l.... also, a check with US department of energy's website on fuel economy revealed the following figures:

city 18mpg = 7.69km/l
highwy 24mpg = 10.2 km/l

what the hell...

Just fyi, I did my best FC trials with Shell Helix Super in the engine. I've been using it since day one and I still get decent mileage.

Another thing I learned recently is that if you don't use up your petrol within a reasonable amount of time, you will get less mileage out of that tank. Learned from Joe that it's not so much because the petrol gets 'stale' but rather because some of the petrol is lost through vaporisation. That could be the reason why some of you may be getting less mileage out of each tank of gas if you don't drive your 8 often enough.

I haven't read my user manual from cover to cover, so I don't recall it saying anywhere that higher RON is better. Even so, it does not say higher RON is better for what exactly. Of course it's better to prevent detonation, but it's not necessarily better for fuel consumption. Also I believe there is a difference between JDM spec and Euro spec 8s for which type of fuel the cars are optimally tuned for.

Looks like there are quite a number of us here who hardly use their cars huh.
My mileage as of this morning is 16 500km, after owning the car for 2yr 7 mths. Sign! And I am using it as often as I could, esp lately!
