Shipping Bodykit from US
Hi Bros and Sistas
Exploring the idea of shipping a bodykit from US. The dealer in US told me that apart from the cost of the kit and cost of shipping, I still need to pay for customs duty when it arrives in Singapore.....
Need you guys advice, is this true? and how much is the duty?
The dealer also advised that the cheapest shipping would be to ship it to the port and I pick it up from there. Diff quoted was abt US$150 in shipping.
Any idea how I get it from the port?
Thanks

Yes, you would have to pay our local GST base on the value of the kit. But have it deliver to your place rather than having yourself to pick up from the port. Its very troublesome. The kit will be fairly bulky, you'll need at least a van to have them pick up. So if you have a van, that's fine, if not, you'll still need to go and hire one... Pay for it, have it send straight to the shop where you gonna get it fixed.
If they except credit card or paypal, that's easy. But if they prefers Telegraphic Transfer, you'll need to do it over a bank and to pay service charges...another US$30 and above...

U may wish to scroll to the US forums to see the various complaints for the replica kit, esp those off ebays. They may be cheap, but its nvr worth the effort. seriously, if they are replicas, u r better off getting them from across the island up north or even the local bodykit shop. Not to discourage u, but tinking abt the shipping costs and the tax that u r paying, its not worth it.
Bank transfer is another hidden cost. bear in mind u got to pay both sides bank charges. The manufacturer will not bear the bank charge for u.
and nvr pick it up from port, u must noe how ley chey it is to even get into the port (fyi, need to change pass, need documents....), not to mention u need a van to transport all the boxes. and tink of all these efforts, end up u get a kit that needs plenty of putty, sanding... the labour alone to do up this replica kit is another huge cost.
theres oso the customary 5% gst u wld have to pay... seriouslytink abt it, end up u will pay 2k plus for everything. and if u get an original kit, u pay slightly more, no need headache and so much labour. perfect fitting, direct spray paint job. take note that the manufacturer will oso mark up on the shipping costs.
look at canman's kit on sunday... u will be surprised for the price u r paying, u r getting such look.
bro, hold ur horses and consider carefully before commiting.........

I think it is original kit from dealer...not from ebay...
Current estimate is about $2k just for the front bumper + shipping + taxes + spray paint.....
Still exploring options.....
Thanks guys for your honest feedback

the joints are dead giveaways. The bonnet joints and the signal indicators, obvious lah, bro... u shld noe...... but then again, cun complain cos its a replica
if toking abt mazdaspeed kit, yes, its value for money cos the whole damn original cost ard 6k or more without the spoiler, whereas a replica kit is only like 1-2k.
BUT
if toking abt other brands, some dun even cost half as much as mazdaspeed... i cun see where is the value for money factor???? if u have to pay up to 2k for a replica plus paint plus everything, wld u fork out 800bucks more for the original that is so perfect??? thats the point i'm trying to put across.....
juz my 2 cents....

Matrix, I will support your decision be it any kit that you are getting but bear this in mind.
If you were to buy an original kit, I implore you to use a reputable paint shop and installer. The last thing you would want would be for someone to replicate your kit. There have been cases of people approaching some shops to borrow the kit and do a mold so that they can replicate it and all it takes them is barely an hour or two. These kind of shops are the shoddy types but there are also those that will offer you a deal in return for fabricating your kit, like throwing in free REPLICA side skirts.
Take some time to think bout it, you just paid bout 1k plus for your front bumper which is essentially original and probably you will be the first and only exclusive looking car around. Would you give up all that and have the thought of maybe, just MAYBE, seeing replicas of your car and not counting in the fact that the person only paid only a pittance for it.
Whats the value of REPLICA side skirts? $100 maybe $200?
For only that small amount and to give up all that PLUS to shoot yourself in the leg, I think the answer is fairly obvious.
