Singapore - RX8 - Want to buy but help me with some qns?

Hi all,

feel like buying the rx8 but some things i have no idea.

1) What's the difference between the PI version and MM's version?
(Less the warranty years, less the price)

2) Does MM has the manual version? Does PI import in the manual version?

3) Also one screw up part, I am not 28. MM says to test drive RX8, must be 28 and above... how to buy the car without even test driving it before? (Or is there any way around it other than looking for friends who own a RX8 and is willing to let me test on theirs

hmmmm.... buy also so hard to buy .... haiz...

1) What's the difference between the PI version and MM's version?

Horsepower difference. MM is 231, PI is 250 for 6MT. Another difference is MM only offers the euro spec model, which is 6MT, with sunroof, 2 oil coolers. PI sunroof optional, 1 oil cooler, speedcut at 180km/h.

2) Does MM has the manual version? Does PI import in the manual version?

PI manual version has to be imported.

3) Also one screw up part, I am not 28. MM says to test drive RX8, must be 28 and above... how to buy the car without even test driving it before? (Or is there any way around it other than looking for friends who own a RX8 and is willing to let me test on theirs

Ur only option is to borrow from frens or rx8 club members...

SERIOUSLY, the search button is your best fren. Ur questions have been asked many times before.

i always wonder why they come out 2 configurations of oil coolers for the same type of engine? is it because the jap ones are better thus only needs 1 oil cooler or is it that the euro hotter than jap thus need more oil coolers?

I suspect its the weather. Anyway if u really whacked the car, safer to fix another oil cooler if urs us the PI. Good for engine in the long term.

I think i heard from zav on this one b4...if my memory serve me correctly, the
additional oil cooler was for the tougher emission criteria in europe? Its not
really absolutely necessary?

But then again, I always have a lousy memory...

This is a question that has bugged me. An additional Oil cooler for ATF or Engine Oil?

if both MM & PI using same engine... isit possible to "unlock" or retune the car from 231 to 250 bhp? cos MM seems to be a slightly better deal...cept for the bhp loss..

i would rather get the MM version due to the extra oil cooler... better for the engine... esp for our rotary engine and our climate. 231 and 250... not much difference lah. anyway i would rather have an engine that is 231 and last me whole 10 years with no problem than one with 250 and only last 8 years with plenty of days at the workshop.

Hate to burst the PI RX-8 owners' bubble but the 250 rating is in PS (some metric measurement). Actual Brake Horse Power is the same regardless of importer (for the S-version that is).

I can't comment on the Eurospec RX-8 but when the Skyline GTR was officially imported into Europe, they added a transmission oil cooler to handle the high speed autobahn runs.
