too warm in the 8?
Hi
I recall a post sometime back regarding the warm front cup holders (from a Singaporean owner), and I've read many threads (globally) with people complaining that the centre console gets warm and some even say that their legs also get affected by the heat emitted from the tunnel.
I am curious to know if the automatic versions have more heat emitted near the tunnel/console of the car as compared to the manual ones? I read in a thread that the automatic transmissions generate more heat than manuals?
Another point is whether or not the MM imported models which come with twin oil coolers reduce this problem of heat as compared to the PI J-spec cars with only one oil cooler?
I would think this issue would be quite important for Singapore owners since the weather here is always warm, compared to other regions. Would be interesting to hear what some of the owners here have to say now that we have every version of the car offered in Singapore represented in the forum.

its still hot...though wif 2 coolers, wich onli cools the oil,the engine still generates the same amt of heat...hence,i usualli place the drinks @ the rear holder instead.
the cooler is actualli quite 'useless' if the vehicle is 'motionless'.the oil temp climbs faster then it cools

On the way up the coast last weekend my wife put a bag of still thawing frozen Banana Bread Muffins in the cup holders.
We opened the bag and plopped them in .
then in an hour they were oven fresh warm
... yummy
Thanks for the mini pop and fresh oven Mazda. Now where's the fridge?

My previous car was a MX-5, that car generate probably more heat than the RX-8. Especially with the top down, the footwell very soon became foot-warmer. Anyway, I've probably got use to that kind of heat and as compared with the 8, it felt pretty ok. Well, here in our sunny island, most of the time our air-con is on as soon as we pop into the car, if the car gets too hot just tune the air-con cooler or adjust it towards the foot well if it gets too hot down there. Frankly not much of a problem at all. And like what cuscorex had sad, the twin cooler don't reduce the heat generated by the engine.
Drinks, hmmm..., don't normally bring drinks into the car, also, finds it difficult to drive with a cup or can of drinks at my elbow area, it makes shifting difficult. unless of course it's a auto...

Hi melo! Don't know about heat in a manual - me haven't thot to ask.
But it IS hot in an auto. Especially if me put mettallic stuff in - like keys. Not good for leather stuff to - tends to 'fog' the finish.
But it's good for coffee! And me ciggies r nice & warm! :D
