however, i feel itz the ecu problem as all the problems you mentioned has got something to do with the ecu...
probably theres some wire shorted with another in the circuits because of the rain or the heat from the engine melt out one of the chips...
itz very difficult to troubleshoot this kinda of electronic stuff...
i know...hehe... studied this subject

they will try and try and try and try to fix up your vehicle by liasing with japan or somewhere else... coz itz too expensive for them to send it back to japan.. and whatsmore... if they send it back, they are gonna lose most of their margin...
but then again, they might have warranty from japan... so it depends on hw they good their service is...
you should try pushing them to get yours done soon... as you did not pay for your car to get spoilt so easily...

Sorry I may be wrong but PI cars have no warranty from Japan. The cars are not supposed to be exported. They have local warranty but once exported, no more liao which is why local PI support is CRUCIAL! Do u guys know PI cars are purchased locally in Japan and de-registered within 3 days to export? Then it is considered 'new' car in Singapore! Any recall, esp majotr ones are only supported by the local PI and their Jap counterpart (not Mazda Japan). So if u need to change a headlight housing, for example, Mazda Japan will pass the right part to the 'registered ex owner' in Japan (3 days owner) and it is up to the Japan ex owner to pass the part to their counterpart in Spore (the PI). so if the chain break down, the local PI has to procure the parts directly from Japan to honour their 'warranty'.
Thats how I understand the relationship bet the PI and their Japan counterpart.
If I am wrong, pse correct me so we can all learn :D

as for warranty from jap, agree with ebs.. once exported out, no longer bound by warranty from jap as warranty only for domestic.

My colleague's ex PI car was stuck with the PI/workshop for 4 mths pending the ECU replacement from Japan! At least the PI was good enug to loan him another car (a Merc!) during that time.
So having a good relationship with ur PI does help. It all depend on who u deal with.

I was without my car for almost 8 weeks last year because of ECU problem. Was driving at the basement of Raffles City when the CEL lighted up and immediately after that, not much response from the accelerator. It simply refused to go above 2k rpm. had the car towed back to my PI, who then immediately courier the ECU Japan the same day. Waited 2 weeks the ECu came back but problem was not solved. What is interesting is that when the PI replaced my ECU with another RX8's ECU, the problem disappeared and that RX8 inherited my problem. Concluded that the ECU is the cause and they had a new ECU shipped from Japan but the hassle took almost 8 weeks bcos Japan had a one-week holiday during that period. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that your problem is as easy as mine to resolve but the good thing is that fuel comsumption seemed to improved after I got the new ECU and everything is ok up till now.

Still...two months is a long time without yer 8 bro! Glad it worked out for ya though. I bot from MM to (hopefully) avoid two months without my wheels should a problem like bad ECU surface. Plus, knowing it would cost more than PI, I wanted the FE32 Euro spec six speed

Prob the emmission standard in Europe is tougher and the type of petrol available make the 6 speeds 'different'. euro spec FE32 is slightly less powered on paper compared to the SE3P.

Bro rayshaw23 prob sound 'similar' so a change of ECU hopefully will solve the prob.
