Hmm, seems like "they" knew the rims/tyres were new/expensive.
Wonder if he was being followed after his wheel change?
Time to call CSI: Singapore.

No use. These are pros. Whatever lock key u used, they are oso available to others. So far dont think theres any type that is one of a kind (like those computerized door lock type).

Anyway if such type lock nut available, the thieves may really whacked ur screws and forced the nut to really cracked etc etc and u end up still losing the wheels plus all the screws etc all spoilt. Definitely worse off.

Are there any sound measures that we can employ to deter such errant behaviours?

Next thing u know, even those wide angle mirrors that morgan was selling is taken away with the wheels and not to mention Carbon Fiber hoods, strakes, rotors, endless brakes.. stripping the car to its bare minimum..

D... sorry to hear abt this. I really don't mean this as rubbing salt so please don't misunderstand, but if anyone is using expensive rims, please make sure you get special lock nuts that are not available locally.

EBS, there are specialised lock nuts with unique keys that are definitely "not available to others". Every set comes with 2 (in case you lose 1) unique computer designed keys that is unique to the set and not available anywhere else. If you lost both keys, you would have to contact the manufacturer with the set's unique serial number and they would custom make another key for you.

I bought a set for ER28 after his set of rims were stolen. Might seem expensive compared to regular lock nuts, but definitely well worth the extra $$ if it saves your rims from being stolen just once. I'm not an expert wheel thief so I really don't know how to "really whacked ur screws and forced the nut to really cracked". I don't think the thieves would really go through so much trouble, create so much noise, draw so much attention and spend so much time to do that. They will just pick some other easier target. Of course nothing prevents them from doing all the other things like INXS mentioned, but that's where a good alarm system or video surveillance system comes in. All these unique lock nuts can do is protect your wheels from being stolen. PM me if any of you needs a set.

In keeping with our gah men's voyeuristic nature (as evident from the number of cameras on our roads and esp geylang), they should start putting cameras in MSCPs as well to prevent such things from happening. It'll also help to prevent those idiots from smashing windows just to steal a cash card.

But all those people who like to make out in MSCPs have to beware though.... They might take your footage and put it in STOMP and they won't blank out or haze out your face.......

but install CCTV within the boundary of the HDB MSCP may be too costly. UNless, the "season holder" of the respective resident is willing to fork out the "extra $$" when paying for the monthly carpark payment, otherwise, dun think the "cheng hu" will wan to do it man ....

Rainne, you are right. Typical lock nuts that are mass produced will have the same keys and so most garages/tyre shops or even the average lay person can buy a few different sets and have a collection of lock nut keys. That's why I suggest getting special lock nuts with UNIQUE keys. Of course there is still no 100% guarantee that they can't steal your wheels or your entire car for that matter, but it's a deterent to discourage the thieves from making you their victim.
