$4.5 billion bid for Chrysler

NEW YORK (AP) - Billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian is proposing to pay $4.5 billion in cash for Chrysler, as parent DaimlerChrysler AG examines what to do with its troubled U.S. automaking arm.

A deal would put Kerkorian in charge of Chrysler a decade after he claims he was tricked out of a potential billions of dollars in the 1998 deal in which Germany's DaimlerBenz combined with Chrysler.

At $4.5 billion, they're way overpriced.

I offered them $10 they said they'd seriously consider my offer and get back to me. I'm still waiting for that phonecall back. I'd make all their cars look like Crossfires.. wait nah that would be to cruel of a joke. Hmm what did Chrysler stand for back in the day? As in what was their nich? Thats their problem they have none I guess other than "that car brand with the dog taking a crap looking car.".

Whomeva buys it better be willing to shake things up hardcore and give the brand a idenity quick.

I wish Bill Ford and a few others would buy ford out and take it private. Honestly, it wouldn't be that hard. Ford's equity position isn't much, and the public debt holders don't have nearly the same issues that shareholders do.

Its alot easier to clean house and reoganize without the public company spotlight.

Daimler paid, what?....44 billion for Chrysler in 1998?

Steal of the century, but it won't happen. A bidding war will erupt.

Chrysler has a LOT of potential, Crossfire notwithstanding.

Their Jeep franchise alone is worth tens of billions.

This has an incredible comeback story written all over it. Chrysler is an incredible value and opportunity.

The Jeep franchise won't be worth much if they keep putting out crap like the Compass.

hes the same guy that sold hes huge stake in GM because GM management didnt want to merge with renualt/nissan. he was the main person behind that push to merge. If he buys chrysler, as majority owner, he might try to make the same push.

Read a article in the Wallstreet Journal about this and it seems the guy wishes to buy the company and then make in private again to reogranize and make it a competitor again. The only obstacle I see is the UAW in fighting this but most of them are just greedy and dont understand that if the company sinks they are all out of the job anyways.

Again I ask the question that did Chrysler (the car brand) stand for back in the day it has me annoyed I can't think of it. Where they a lux brand like Cadi or what? Also is this sale just for Chrysler name plate or for Chrysler Corp (which includes Dodge)? Even the Wallstreet Journal didnt state which one it was they just said Chrysler.
